Lure Of the Tempress save disk(s)

Does anyone know if Lure Of the Tempress (1992) can use standard ADF instead of extended ADF format for its save file ? I've noticed PlanetEmu offers a single (1) ADF for that purpose, while the game creates a couple of extended ADF's to save one's progress.

Extended ADF only. The save format is custom.

But surely, while I understand it might be of dubious origin, the ADF from PlanetEmu contains 9 save slots :

Code:

The question remains me thinks, could a single ADF such as this one be used as a substitute for the two extended ADF's that the game creates ? Resorting to lateral thinking is a bee in my bonnet, sorry if that sounds distracting to some peeps .

The savedisk boot sector is AmigaDOS, but the tracks where the files are saved are in MFM format. hence the ADF extended file.

This boot sector belongs to an ADF I downloaded from PlanetEmu Lure of the Temptress (1992)(Virgin)[save disk] (linked in my previous post), it's a standard 880k ADF file. It wasn't generated by the game presumably, but it seems legit.

Original game uses custom disk format (Rob Northen PDOS), the cracked version will use standard format for all disk operations if the cracker did this job properly.

I use the ADF's from DamienD collection, which happens to be the bugfixed version Scoopex released in 2015. You won't try to prove me wrong if I am taking for granted the cracker did the job properly , will you ?

Let me explain :
Flashtro offer cracktro's to groups such as Scoopex when the latter need one for one of their releases
As far as I know, they don't crack games, what they do is simply feature said cracktro on their website
In the good old days, groups had many talents at their disposal, usually there was someone to draw the gfx, or they could borrow a gfx artist from another group
But these days, members of cracking groups don't have too much time to devote to a release, a full-time job, a petulant missus at their side, you know the drill. Once the crack is done (in that case, it was musashi9 who made it, if that rings a bell), they pass it over to flashtro for the gfx (might not be totally accurate, but you get the picture). Having said that, what is important here is that the crack was made from start to finish under Scoopex supervision, which implies two things I believe :
  • That the crackers from the groups of the early 90's blew it (to some extend), such was the case with Ghosts 'n Goblins
  • That it should be safe to use a standard size ADF for saving / loading operations (I don't mind playtesting it myself with the aforementioned ADF, just give it a couple of days) since that's part of how a crack should be made, as using the custom disk format for support disks was totally unnecessary

There have been quite a few cracks made by Flashtro.

Not quite correct.

There was no SCX involvement other than the crack intro coded by Mr. Spiv (who happens to be SCX member) for the Lure of the Temptress crack by Flashtro and especially no supervision.

The Flashtro version is a crack of a later (bugfixed) version of Lure of the Temptress which was not cracked back in the day (TM).

Notice the question mark .
@DamienD
I shouldn't have mentioned PlanetEmu, sorry about that. Simply put, save file ADF's are part of TOSEC, and are featured on the EAB file server. I guess it should be possible to format a bog standard blank ADF from the game menu if you'd rather not use that particular ADF.

As already mentioned to you via PM; the extended "Save Disk" .ADF was created on WinUAE using the Flashtro crack, and from the game menu.

Now I get it
StingRay suggested that a standard Data Disk could be used, provided the cracker did the job properly, right ?
Have a look at the different versions of the game that TOSEC gathered
Who offered to code a crack for the French version ? StingRay
And guess what ? Unlike the Flashtro version, that French version for which he got rid of the protection all by himself does allow the player to "format" a 880k blank ADF with the game routines. That implies the "Save Disk" I grabbed from the file server matches the cracked French release of the game. Admittedly, it won't work with the Flashtro version, which is a pity since the latter uses the bugfixed version.
Of course, it's up to me to play the French version since I am fluent in French but it would be nice to also have the original (bugfixed preferably) version of the game bearing the same capabilities in terms of disk operations. Maybe StingRay could ask Mr. Spiv if he has archived that elusive bugfixed version somewhere .

Did some more testing, anyone can reproduce very easily in WinUAE, have made screenshots to backup my observations. Date of release is provided by the Information menu. Let's consider the following cracked versions :

Fairlight version
Language used : English
Fixed VS not fixed version : Not fixed
Official date of release : 06/17/1992
Presence of an intro : True, mentions that Denis supplied the original
Disk operations : Allows 880k blank disks to be used as a data disk

StingRay version
Language used : French
Fixed VS not fixed version : Not fixed
Official date of release : 06/18/1992
Presence of an intro : False
Disk operations : Allows 880k blank disks to be used as a data disk

Flashtro version
Language used : English
Fixed VS not fixed version : Fixed
Official date of release : 08/06/1992
Presence of an intro : True, typical flashtro intro
Disk operations : Doesn't allow 880k blank disks to be used as data disk, extended format ones required

I remember there was a fix patch going around back in the old days. It could be that some of these images don't have the patch applied.

Buyers of the original game could return the floppies for free, then Virgin Games would overwrite the game with the bugfixed version and return them back to the sender. But at that point, the scene had lost interest, except for a few recipients of the exchange program that kept that version over the years in a timely manner. Maybe a fix patch have been be be made by comparing both versions. IMHO it would be more convenient to source the bugfixed version (since the latter has been IPF'ied by the SPS team) and pass it over to Galahad for him to have a look at that specific version. Not likely to happen since Flashtro versions are usually well regarded (the fact that DamienD picked up that version for his collection being a clear illustration ).

The bug prevented the avatar to exit a room if a save file was used, there wasn't much content left to be discovered afterwards since all of this was taking place in one of the last rooms (if not the last) of the game. The "issue" with real Amiga owners I believe is that it's not very convenient to use extended ADF's as Data Disks. If I was to play the game in WinUAE, I would simply use the flashtro / Musashi9 version and cope with the minor annoyance of resorting to those inflated save game ADF's that the badly cracked version (badly is a bit strong maybe, let's say hastily cracked) creates.
