Question Fast ATA4000-MKVII card not seen on any zorro port?

Tried all the slots and no go...sometimes I can boot system but my A4000 (if I remove my X-Surf100) but system still doesn't see card...usually system just doesn't want to boot at all with card installed. Don't see any jumpers all on card ?

Which Buster Chip version are you using on the A4K mainboard?
If it’s not a SuperBuster 11 then this maybe the cause.

@ JPor

Have SuperBuster 11 already since my X-Surf100 wasn’t playing nice with my A4K

Elbox support told me to clean the gold connectors but already did that more than once. Gonna try connecting it to my CRT and only having the FastATA4000 on the zorro slot…if early setup doesn’t pick it up that way then this brand new card was defective from the factory.

Buster revision shouldn't matter much since it's not a DMA card. Your card may be faulty.

Is it a matter of drives not showing up, or does the card not show up at all in the AutoConfig list? (can view in early startup, or with checkconfig, sysinfo, etc.)

card…sent Elbox hi res pics the other day…they said they check each card with every PIO setting before it gets shipped out and it came well packaged …I did notice the card was really tight to get into the Zorro slots so maybe it could be a connection issue? might try sanding down the edges but let’s see what Elbox says before I start physically messing with the card as it’s brand new and under warranty.

In the configurations that it does do... something have you tried putting your hand above the tops of the chips to see if they're getting warm? Mine run moderately toasty.

What I remember about my FastATA in an A4000:
I had to be careful what scsi.device patches were in the system. Otherwise I had to use a kickflash to restore a more compatible scsi.device.
The FastATA was picky about cables too.

On my (much earlier revision) FastATA 4000 it would usurp scsi.device and the internal IDE connector became 2nd.scsi.device -- I was always annoyed by this and that they didn't have a separate fastata4000scsi.device or something that loaded with autoconfig.

looks mine might just be DOA? Elbox told me remove all other cards on Zorro port and try the FastATA4000 and still nothing...then they asked me to send them hi-res pics of front and back a week ago and haven't heard back as of yet..just sent them a follow up email

Have you installed the software? - FastATA.driver has to be running before you can get into HDToolbox.

Yes. I have a FastATA 4000 MK-VII Black Edition ordered from Amigastore.eu in 2019, with OS3.2 roms and OS3.2 running perfectly fine.

It's a Rev B A4000D. On the Zorro bus are a Deneb USB controller, FastATA and ZZ9000. I've had various configurations with the FastATA on 3.2 including Thylacine, BigRamPlus and Repulse sound card.

I currently have a Cyberstorm MkII clocked at 55Mhz. Prior to that I had a tbtorro-built A3660 running at 50Mhz. The Fast-ATA was detected by either card using OS 3.2 and 3.9 Roms. HTH.

Your system is pretty close to mine Mine is also RevB MB with CS-MKIII and MNT VA2000/CX RTG & X-SURF100. Never had an issue with my old Buddha Flash IDE but with brand spanking new Fast ATA4000-MKVII I've had no luck so far

The reason I said to check chip die temperatures is that cold chips are a sign of not getting power. It's possible you have a duff slot or power rail on a slot, but then other cards wouldn't work in that slot.
If your other cards are all working solo in each slots (esp the buddha) and the only one that doesn't autoconfig is the Fastata then it's pretty clear the problem lies with the Fastata.

I'd RMA it. If they can fix it it's probably worth it. If not, then you should get a refund.

@ klx300r & stevelord

As a matter of interest, what version of 060 Libs are you guys using? - Same one or different ones?

Iirc, wasn't there an issue with some ZORRO cards & CSMKII's & III's?

I've used various 060 libs without issue with both Cyberstorm (MMULibs, Cyberstorm MKII libs) and A3660 (MMULibs and some random A3660-specific lib floppy image I found). 060 Libs don't affect cold-boot autoconfig.
