WinUAE 4.9.0 distorted aspect ratio in DblPal OS3.1
I recently tried to upgrade from WinUAE 4.4.0 to WinUAE 4.9.0. However, I noticed a distorted aspect ratio when displaying standard DblPal screen mode in Workbench3.1 (other higher freqency modes might be affected as well; I had not time to check them all). In DblPal, I use maximum overscan (720x550). In WinUAE 4.9.0, the displayed area is too narrow (not cropped, just horizontally shrunken) so that the aspect ratio is distorted. In WinUAE 4.4.0, everything is displayed with correct aspect ratio. Any idea why this happens?

I can't duplicate. I checked every monitor before release and all of them worked as expected.
Which DBLPAL mode exactly? How many colors? Does it happen even without overscan? Screenshot please. EDIT: run with log window open (-log command line parameter), copy and paste this part from your log (it is not necessarily identical and have same lines): Code:
28-008 [116 000-008]: Programmed mode autores = 1 -> 2 (2) 28-040 [117 000-000]: SNDRATE 591.0*122.0*49.192741=3546895.039993 28-040 [117 000-000]: NTSC mode dblscan V=49.1927Hz H=29072.9102Hz (122x590+1) IDX=-1 (<?>) D=0 RTG=0/0 28-041 [117 000-000]: RTGFREQ: 590*49.1927 = 29023.7168 / 49.2 = 590 28-041 [117 000-000]: BEAMCON0=1B88 VTOTAL=589 HTOTAL=121 (079) 28-042 [117 000-000]: HS=000B-0015 HB=0001-0021 HC=0047 28-042 [117 000-000]: VS=0008-0016 VB=0590-0024 28-042 [117 000-000]: HSYNCSTART=0085.0 HSYNCEND=001B.0 28-043 [117 000-000]: Lines=12-598 28-043 [117 000-000]: PC=00f8293a COP=0005ab9c EDIT2: if possible, zip and attach sys:prefs/env-archive/sys/screenmode.prefs and overscan.prefs + your config file. Could you also include your uae config file? Screenshot looks like there is some extra scaling which core display emulation can't cause.

...and final remark: I use standard monitor drivers from the official Workbench 3.1 installation disks.
Thanks for any ideas what could be the reason for that distortion... |

Ah, "default" filtering option. It isn't meant to be used with "non-standard" modes and can cause unexpected blurriness depending on native resolution. But there was also a bug, internally calculated programmed mode width was too large.
Does https://download.abime.net/winuae/files/b/winuae.7z fix it? |

With stock double NTSC or PAL modes I get a similar effect, even with that winuae.7z you posted, default quickstart config.
Code:
Programmed mode autores = 1 -> 2 (2) SNDRATE 479.0*130.0*57.484261=3579544.905014 NTSC mode dblscan V=57.4843Hz H=27534.9609Hz (130x478+1) IDX=-1 (<?>) D=0 RTG=0/0 RTGFREQ: 478*57.4843 = 27477.4766 / 57.5 = 478 BEAMCON0=1B88 VTOTAL=477 HTOTAL=129 (081) HS=000B-0015 HB=0001-0021 HC=004B VS=0007-0014 VB=0478-0022 HSYNCSTART=008D.0 HSYNCEND=001B.0 Lines=11-485 PC=00fcfe32 COP=00015dd4 |

Which can be normal. Did you compare it against 4.4?

Hi Toni, thanks for your efforts. I checked the referenced WinUAE 4.9.1 beta. The aspect ratio has improved compared to 4.9.0 but still it is not exact - see the attached pictures. |

I don't think this can be matched fully with 4.4 because programmed modes are now emulated much more accurately that made internal handling different.
Change filter panel "default" to "no scaling" (or 2x+ or integer scaling modes). You probably want integer pixel mapping anyway when using WB. |

I see that there are many filtering options for the output and in the end I found a suitable one that gave correct aspect ratio but still I would expect that the "default" option works reasonably well out of the box. Thank you anyway for your time and assistance. |

This is possibly fixed now, check 4.9.1 beta thread.
