Alien Breed 3D 2 - The Killing Grounds

Hi, I was thinking of playing and completing a new game and decided to go for AB3DII, but the screensize in the game is so small and I can't get it bigger even if i use the +/- on the numberpad as suggested in the manual. I checked the internet and found some sites that has screenshots of the game and in FULL screen size. How do I get it to be in full screen aswell?

Thanks.

Try pressing enter on the numeric keypad. This should flip the display to fullscreen. If that doesn't work you must not be using the 4mb version. Boot the game using the 4mb version to get fullscreen graphics.

Yay, thanks Steve!

The enter key on the numeric keypad isnt even mentioned in the manual, maybe the manual only limited to the 2mb version.

Yes, of course, I only play the 4mb version , always the best.

I play the game in WinUAE on my laptop, and my laptop doesnt have a keypad, instead used the Fn key + the other assinged ke.... blaaahh... cant explain .. anyway, made backspace into the enter key and now play in fullscreen :P

edit:

ok cool, pressed the Fn key + return and it worked as the enter key on the numeric pad..

I'm a bit of a novice with the Amiga emulator, would you mind telling me what settings have you selected to get this game to run and does it play nicely (quickly)? I loved the original AB3D demo on a cover disk but was dissapointed with the 1st game when it was actually released.

This was in one of the threads somewhere, but couldn't find it again the other day when I searched. I've given it a try and the games runs perfectly:

One user said:
Here's my config:
RAM= chip=2, fast=8, slow=512k, z3 fast=128, rtg=16mb
CPU= 68020+fpu, adjustable cpu/chipset =1, detect idle cpu=yes, jit settings= 8mb, hard flush=no, force settings=no, const jump=yes, no flags=yes, fpu support =yes.
DISPLAY=800*600/16 bit 60 Hz, correct aspect=yes, full screen=yes, display every frame, line mode=doubled
CHIPSET=aga(obviously), collision level=sprite only, fast copper=yes
SOUND=enabled 100%=yes, freq=44.1, stereo, interpolation disabled, buffer=3, lag=0.0%.

Another user replied:
Suggestion:
Turn off fast-ram and slow-ram. Also you don´t need rtg-ram if you don´t use picasso96.
set cpu-speed to "fastest possible".
set z3-ram to 32 mb or less (otherwise windows *could* be forced to use virtual memory.

I use 020, fastest possible, JIT, 3.1, AGA, 2 chip, 4 fast, some Z3 fast and RTG... not all are needed... but it works fine for me.. the game runs as smooth as it can on any machine I guess... 50fps flawless smoothness.
Recorded a bit, fooling around from stage 1-3: (low quality, 20mbs, 12 mins.. otherwise the file would have been like 100+mbs)

25 fps, 12 mins, low quality
A small clip, 40 sec, 5 mb, better quality

I dont understand why people play with screensize like 800x600 and game size 320x240.... it will make a black boarder... I always run in perfect resolutions.. and I NEVER use correct aspect... it mostly display pixels incorrect, and I always use Collision level=full.

Oh, and I'm quite far into the game, not much left I believe, but it's not that difficult really. I have change the controls so it works like a first person game... you know, stearing with the mouse, using w a s d to walk and strafe etc.... so I'm quick and find the game easy. (plays lots of first person games). Using the standard settings which is slow turning with the arrow keys and stuff is too slow and amateurish.

This only causes unneeded slowdown. There is currently only one known game that requires full collision

Man, you must have a pretty fast machine. How fast is it? AB3DII runs at about half it's proper speed in fullscreen mode on my old Athlon 600. It's still fairly playable though. Have you played a game called 'Breathless'? Now that game really chugs along on my computer! lol.

Tip of the day:
A little known fact is that the pressing enter on the numeric keypad trick also works in the original Alien Breed 3D. You can lose that naff border and get a nice full screen display. This makes the game look extremely blocky though so you've been warned! It also speeds up emulation by by about 4x. The border really seems to slow that game down for some reason. At least it does on my machine.

My laptop isnt that fast really.... but omg, u have an athlon 600?... I had that one too 1 week after it was released and for 1 year... that is really too slow for most aga games and all todays pc games... well, todays pc games requires a minimum of 1ghz to run and stuff. Just work and save up money. Winuae is quite demanding... no wonder games are slow on your computer.

My computer specs copied right of a system checking prog:

I dont bother to translate

had a 3 times faster computer before I got my laptop... really wanted a laptop so i sold my computer.. had 23000 points in 3dmark 2003 with my other comp.. only gets about 8000 with my laptop.

As the game comes with a level editor I was thinking of making my own levels, but I tried the level editor and it's so confusing so I didnt give it much time. It has lots of bugs aswell, but aminet has a patch that fixes most bugs, aminet also have another level editor, but that one is also confusing and complicated. Too bad they are not as easy as the level editor for Duke Nukem is. Would be fun to make a level with amiga characters as enemies and stuff. But I don't have the patience to learn how they work when they are so complicated.
