First samurai question
Hi
I have an ipf of the First Samurai, and also a modified original with all my level saves and scores, which of course will not be cap'd. Is there any way of combining the save data from the modified disk ( after converting it to an .adf) to the ipf so the ipf file has the said save data. I was thinking of using x-copy in winuae to copy the ipf to a new adf, and then copy the save data from the modified adf onto it. Does anyone know is this actually possible, and if it is, which track is the save data on? I remember being able to copy the first samurai disk 2 using x-copy. cheers |

Yes it is, but you want to copy onto the ipf as the game is protected - once you know which tracks.
The changed tracks will be stored by uae as a diff file among your save images. Write enable the disk image in uae to enable using a diff file. You can rollback all of your changes by deleting the save image through uae interface (it becomes write protected after that) or simply deleting the corresponding file in your save image directory. |

Does opening the diff file in notepad tell me which track it is referring to?

Somehow I doubt that for a binary file
Checking the uae source might help though. |

IFW, do you know which track(s) the data is saved on as you probably have seen lots of raw files of first samurai disk 2 that have been modified. I guess those tracks would not be copy protected as the amiga writes to it.
On a similar point, is it possible to unmodify a disk, by 'resetting' the save data? |

From my memory you can copy an original f.s. disk 2 using doscopy+ in x-copy and it works fine

No idea, only unmodified disks were submitted ever.
You mean a real disk, not the image? Yes, you can: the game uses ados tracks apart from the Copylock tracks on 0.1 - make sure you do not overwrite those on either disk... |

Nope, track 0.1 is protection on both disks.

I think I have an original disk 2 given to me thats modified. Can I submit this to you as a RAW file to see which tracks are modified. I'd quite like see whether I can combine the save info to a fully working ipf to form 'my' disk and play it in winuae
If you're too busy or can't be arsed, then no worries |

First samurai question
Only 12 years late, but I've worked out how to move the saves from adf to ipf.
1) I used FS-UAE and loaded First Samurai disk 1 and skipped through the intro. 2) When it says insert disk 2 into DF0: do just that with the ADF 3) Hit F1 when the title screen appears to display your scores/level saves and pause the emulator. 4) replace the adf with the ipf in your virtual DF0, unpause emulation and press 'S' to save to the ipf. This will create an overlay file to go with your ipf. |
