5.21 works fine for A500 if that is what you want to know.

X-Copy Pro September '93 is the last version that uses the classic code base. Works under 1.x.

X-Copy Pro September '93

http://jope.fi/xcopy/releases.html

No authentic original master disk survives of the English version, so there is no master disk download for this version. You can probably find a copy with the English Sept 93 version online somewhere (TOSEC, Turran). Or just take the packet from the releases page and make a bootable floppy out of that if you want. It's not too difficult, AmigaOS is simple.

You can find an image on Turran that has x-copy 11-93 in its name. This contains the last version of classic x-copy.

I see that there are many versions of Xcopy pro. Thanks for pointing them out to me.

Do they all basically have the same functions, or is there one that is better than all of them?
What is the difference between Xcopy and Xcopy Pro?

Speaking of Xcopy.......can you tell me what these options are for?

I seem to remember BITD, there being some unofficial malicious Xcopy versions that added viruses and such to systems. Was that just a rumour?

It is normal software, as time goes by features are added and bugs are fixed. I am not aware of any regressions, so you should run the latest if you want to run X-Copy. There are plenty of other copy programs though, I personally switched from X-Copy to SuperDuper once I discovered SD. :-)

It's the same thing.

Bamcopy
If you have a valid DOS disk, you can copy it quicker by having X-Copy read the Block Availability Map and only copy the tracks with allocated blocks on them.

Quote:
Nibbler
Some early (think mid 1980s) copy protected disks could be copied using the nibbler. It tries to accurately duplicate what it reads without actually knowing beforehand what kind of data it reads.

Quote:
Optimize
Tries to defragment your valid DOS disk for faster disk access.

Quote:
Destroyer
Overwrites your disk to make the data unreadable. A neodymium magnet is faster.

For more info, http://jope.fi/xcopy/zip/xcopy/xc9309en.zip (and the other releases when a manual was available) has the manual (manual.xcopy). It is not very long so it's definitely worth your time to check it out.

Oh yes and doscopy+ does not make gold out of garbage even though it claims to correct errors as it goes. It merely reads garbage and fixes the checksums to make the garbage palatable to trackdisk.device. Sometimes you might get part of your file back, sometimes not.

A better tool for fixing disks is FixDisk 1.2. You should doscopy or nibble copy your disk to a known working floppy, then use FixDisk against the write protected original. When you analyze tracks and find broken ones, you read from the broken disk, do analysis/repairs, then swap in the copy you made to write your results to. Never write to the disk you are trying to fix if it contains valuable data.

Ti ringrazio per la spiegazione.
Quella opzioni non ho mai saputo cosa fossero, eppure uso xcopy pro da sempre.

Vorrei provare ad usare FixDisk 1.2 Adf. Potresti dirmi dove prenderlo?

I remember using af version of X-Copy with a different title layout than the versions on Jope's website - my version said X-COPY III at the top. This was my favorite version because after using killsys I could copy an entire floppy in one go using 1 MB of ram and a single disk drive. If I remember correctly the "regular" version would read up until the last block and then ask for target disk after which I had to change disk again and copy the last block. My version looked like this: http://janeway.exotica.org.uk/release.php?id=72508
Does anybody know if this was an unofficial "modded" version?

So Paradox changed the graphics (and maybe removed som bits and pieces in order to make it smaller). Seems a little daring - luckily it worked a treat :-)

That is the version I was using back then too... here is the ADF from my floppy from all those years back, so you have everything together with the DOCS on it !

https://easyupload.io/nynxb2

It says it needs DOCS on the disk otherwise will freeze and also does say Update programmed by Paradox:

X-Copy III was Michael Pendec's (Blackhawk/PDX) own improved version. One of the few X-Copy hacks that changed more than the graphics. Having to include the .txt file was Pendec's little anti lamer protection because he knew others would probably try to modify his hack.

Thanks for the ADF by the way, this release disk was not listed in Kestra Bitworld at least. Edit: ah, it was but still thanks for making me aware of it. :-)
