a600 with wifi

good day all

my a600 with 4mb extra ram, which previously had amitcp working over plipbox

so i picked up a MA401 netgear pcmcia card from a carboot

managed to flash it on some old ibm laptop to the firmware that has wpa2 support

i managed to get it to connect to a wifi network with no encryption, which isnt on my usual ip range (realised a 68k would fail with wpa2 LOL) - could that be the cause of s2_configinterface inappropriate state errors with amitcp when i run startnet? ill have to make a new wifi repeater with same ip range to test this i guess

You don’t mention which driver on the Amiga you set this up with? I take it you configured the Wireless manager as well with the correct Amiga driver?

prism2v2 or whatever it is called

i spent a lot of time configuring/swearing at wirelessmanager

when i ran wirelessmanager prism2.device verbose i could see it connecting to my temporary wifi i made to test and the wifi source picked it up as a connected device with the correct mac address - but no ip address (as per my situation at the moment)

Okay so which TCP/IP stack are you using? RoadShow? If using an older TCP stack maybe where the issues arise from.
I tend to use RoadShow as it’s good. If you can’t stretch to Roadshow then try getting hold of MiamiDX to test with.

lol i'm on AmiTCP-bin-30b2.lha and its messy install

this is more of a curiosity for me as i have a cnet compatible card, and a plipbox(mainly for my a500) and amitcp seems to be happy with them, i guess it's either:
ip config is borked cause its on a (crap) repeater which keeps messing about with ip ranges
dont like prism2.device
the startup order needs tweaking so it gets the wifi first as a startup/daemon type, then it gets the tcp config

Is that true?

Prism2 driver + WPA used to work fine on my A600. The driver does say "WPA/WPA2 encryption is not hardware accelerated" for some cards. e.g. ones with Intersil firmware.

You have to use hexadecimal psk using wpa_passphrase utility.

I used MiamiDX as the TCP/IP stack.

I tend to find LinkSYS cards fine when I ve dabbled with PCMCIA net cards on A600 and A1200 machines.

Best

They are in the manual that comes with the driver.

Rod
I used the red labelled Linksys PCMCIA card successfully.

Last card I used on my Vampire setup before moving onto something else was a Netgear Model FA411 using the cnet16.device driver

That is an ethernet card and not a Wifi card.

Yep…. you’re absolutely correct they are both wired cards.

But have used a Wireless Linksys card. Model: WPC11
