Biggest, best looking bosses in Amiga games?
The last few nights I've been playing Sword from 1997 and it is a super fun game, at least with save states as it's extremely difficult. I was really impressed with how big and cool looking some of the bosses were. It's only an OCS/ECS game needing 1MB so looks great. I'm only half way through the game so far but the beetle at 6:57 and the centipede thing at 25:00 are really amazing.
[ Show youtube player ] Some others that I can think of is this huge creature in Tubular Worlds AGA, I can't find a video of the AGA version but it's pretty much identical to the PC one here at 9:04 [ Show youtube player ] The big pike in Apidya at 16:13 always impressed me [ Show youtube player ] and also the zooming boss in Mr Nutz at 56:38 [ Show youtube player ] this huge ship in Blastar at 33:23 [ Show youtube player ] the first boss in Mega Typhoon at 6:11 [ Show youtube player ] and finally the last boss in Turrican 2 AGA at 1:45:30 [ Show youtube player ] Who do you think is the most impressive looking Amiga boss? I wasn’t normally a good enough (maybe patient as well!) player to play many end of level bosses, but from memory Chuck Rock II has a decent sized one.

I thought this topic would make for a good video so I made a quick one and added a Jim Power boss.

Not a boss per se, but the giant ant shootout in It Came From The Desert is still pretty impressive.

@kremiso
Yup... I was also thinking about Ruff 'n' Tumble bosses. Not as big as some that lionagony referenced, but still pretty large, and amazingly animated, with amazing look. @lionagony The other that comes to my mind... well.. not Amiga exclusive, and some levels are missing, but Joe and Mac had very large bosses: 1:25, 3:50, 6:50, 12:20, 17:22, 18:42, 21:30 [ Show youtube player ] Also, I am not sure if you count 3D titles, but Alien Breed 3D had enormous, like building sized boss at the very end... I will go with... the "dragon" in Wrath of the Demon. I just love the Don Bluth-esque graphical style that it has. A nice combination of menacing and dorkiness all wrapped into one. A-ma-zing art design on that one, easily the best graphical work in the game besides the intro IMO.
[ Show youtube player ] @ around 7:15 With a close 2nd place going to Apidya, the giant Mantis. It was on a coverdisk so boy did I beat that thing like a million times. After the wimpy stationary mole you had to beat before it this comes as just such a surprise. [ Show youtube player ] @ around 9:00 I would go with the giant robot from Turrican 2 as my #3 IF that thing didn't die way too quickly. It's big, but all it kind of does is just slowly zoom around a little bit. In that respect I have to hand it to the giant grabber boss of 2:2. That thing really made me go "wow" the first time I saw it. [ Show youtube player ] @ 42:00 Still not difficult, but at least it is programmed to do cool stuff like slamming the wall and trying to grab you. And it explodes in a satisfying way too. |

[ Show youtube player ] Gods bosses were no slouches either (17:05 , 48:20 , 71:10 , 100:30) [ Show youtube player ] |
