Was one of the PD Biplanes type game made with AMOS? The one that allows 4-player?
Dogfight? Not sure. Last edited by Bloodwych; 22 March 2004 at 23:04. |

I wrote a game in AMOS called Textris - will post it in the Zone in a minute if you want to try it. Basically, letters fall down the grid tetris like and you have to arrange them to make words. Not as boring as it sounds though (you'll see why)! It only has a dictionary of about 10,000 words though.
I'm currently working on an updated version for Amiga. This one has some great animated aspects plus a full dictionary. I'm well chuffed with the word search - it takes under a second to check a full grid with a dictionary of over 30,000 words - and it does the check while also doing 3 seperate sprite animations! I'm really having problems getting it all to run in 2 meg of memory though - and I've got to put the game end code and highscores code inplace + there's no sound at the moment. Min requirements at the moment are... AGA 68030 @ 25 MHz 2 meg chip, 1 meg fast. HD only. Aiming for... AGA 68ec020 @ 14 MHz 2 meg chip Floppy and HD. Anything I write has to run primarily on a real Amiga and preferebly on a base A1200. |

Forgot to add I also did a version of the game 'who wants to be a millionaire' on Amos.
Again, I took the time to make sure it didn't appear like an Amos game. The font used looks great on a real amiga + TV (antialiased and stuff) but looks crap under emulation. It has all the lifelines stuff and all the music and sound effects from the program also! Not many questions though... I'll upload that to the zone as well. |

I remember deciding that Jetstrike, Jetstrike AGA and Basejumpers were all written in AMOS Pro, based on the compression used for the datafiles, the performance of the games, and the fact that the usual shortcut keys (Amiga-A and Ctrl-C) worked.
Hundreds of PD/Freeware/Shareware/Licenceware games and utilities were made using it. |

Valhalla also was made in AMOS PRO, if you remove the disk during the intro, you get a AMOS requester!

on the subject of valhalla... did you know that you can use a text editor to read the main executable (yeah you probably did), but the interesting thing is near the beginning of the garbage of text is a bit about the manual protection...
it displays all of the 7 or so key words you need for the protection... try and error will give the right answers to the questions infact if you get a hex editor, you can rename all of the words... i did (am i 1773 cracker or what ), i renamed them all to... <blank>, and i put a bit of text in there to say just press RETURN! i was very suprised to find it still worked |

Off the top of my head, there were a few cricket games that were coded in AMOS: Cricket Amiga, World Series Cricket, Howzat!, ITS Cricket, and All Rounder (PD). All were commercial except the last one.

I know of many AMOS games, but two of the best are Colonial Conquest II (turn based space strategy game, really great in two-player mode) and Dogfight 1.2 (a very fun biplanes-type game). Both should be available off the Aminet.
I think all in-house games from Vulcan were made in AMOS (the Valhalla series, Timekeepers and Bograts). |

About the only AMOS game I recalled playing on a regular basis (apart from Biplanes), was Ork Attack which ended up as a PD covermount on The One magazine.
