Power Flyer Fast-ATA support / emulation?
Feel free to flame me if anyone feels this should be in prb.Hardware or there's a well-known solution I'm not aware of...
I now know why my '060 A1200 is so sloooow: I used WinUAE to set up my HDD which is 5.5gb. Power Flyer wants to split the drive into sub 4gb 'virtual drives' but is going into sloooow 'fall-back' mode having found the drive already partitioned the 'normal' way. Ok, partition the drive on miggy: Houston we have two 'virtual drives' @ full speed. Ah, all data now wiped! Never mind, use WinUAE to transfer the data back onto the drive... Um, No. WinUAE doesn't recognise the 'weirdo' HDD now. HDToolBox finds the drive but wants to treat it as a single drive & re-partition... Back to square one! So my request is: How about Power Flyer Emulation? ![]() In the mean-time I hope said Power Flyer's other IDE header's work in fall-back mode: Install WB via WinUAE so I have a functioning computer. Partition second drive attached to the miggy so I have a Power Flyer aware drive. Copy contents from one to the other & unplug sloooow version... |

You can use the FastATA in NOSPLIT mode to get rid of the 4GB forced partitions. Not sure what the fallback mode you are referring to is, unless it means using no fastata drivers.

NOSPLIT mode eh?
Serves me right for not reading the docs properly. Thanks. Fall back mode is probably 'just' what I call it: The interface runs d*mn slow if I'm using a UAE installed HDD even when the 'correct' params are in sys-startup. I'm assuming it's running as per the standard IDE port in such circumstances. It seems to run full-speed when I reformat the drive with the FastATA... I guess issuing a NOSPLIT would have the same effect, but without wiping all my data! ![]() Funny this: Being a long-time Amithon user I know a fair bit about AOS, but it seems bugger-all about using 'real' hardware. ![]() |

The speed it runs at has little to do with how the hard disk is partitioned. It depends on whether the driver is loaded in the startup-sequence and what mode it is in (PIO0-PIO4/5). (unless of course you have no buffers in your partitioning or a bad maxtransfer or mask.....)
