EAB on Slack - an alternative to IRC
Not sure how many members on here will actually see this, or even bother themselves to read it , but here goes...
The Global Moderator team (most of us), decided to create a group on slack, which is basically a real time, text based, chat like IRC. This is available for PC, Android, iPhone & Windows Phone. This has been created specifically for members who would like to have a chat in real time who prefer not to use IRC. Another purpose of this is when EAB is having issues or is undergoing some downtime, we can hopefully inform everyone as to the circumstances behind it and the members can, if they wish, continue their discussions on there, make notes for themselves for later use on EAB, or just kill some time while they wait for EAB to reappear. RULES FOR JOINING EAB ON SLACK
Download Slack from here, https://slack.com/downloads/windows All links are on that page, android, iPhone, Windows Phone and PC Then either join (preferred) or view the EAB social group "EAB on Slack" HERE to get the invite link. Last edited by DH; 16 November 2017 at 14:08. |

Joined! It's actually quite a nice environment (even if setting up on mac was a bit weird) and the natives appear friendly

Do you expect it to be popular? Time to time I try to go to IIRC here on top of EAB and there is total silence, although 20-30 people seems to be present. In fact I have never caught anybody chatting out there.

IIRC has gradually been getting less and less popular as time has gone by. This new channel offers an alternative which works very well. Give it a try. You can leave and uininstall at any time if you don't like it, |

We, the GM's, basically created it for more serious reasons, but decided to open it up to all users of EAB as well, due to the regular downtime EAB is suffering with at the moment. IRC is pretty dead these days, I have no idea as to why either :s However, it certainly is a good alternative to IRC, it is less complicated to set up than an irc client and it has a more modern look too, with some pretty good features. I won't say it'll take over from IRC, but as an alternative it could be worth it in the long run. |

OK, sounds like a "cheapened"(meaning without paying there is no real security of your account, or that's what their pricing page say) alternative to discord

I haven't logged into IRC in ages primarily due to the fact it's not very nice on a mobile device. I rarely use my PC now for various reasons (Daughter uses it all the time for minecraft), my son requires a lot of my time (he is disabled) etc.. so everything is usually done via my phone.
Slack (and Discord) are easier to use and more mobile friendly. IRC has fulfilled its usefulness and has potentially been superseded. |

IRC will still be around in many years to come Akira my friend
Slack is simply an alternative to IRC solely because some just cannot get their heads around how to use it, or rather, setting up a client correctly. Perhaps you guys could do with a GUIDE, in setting it up, I did one for CiA on their forum, but the forum is now dead but I still have it locally on my PC for test purposes, maybe I should dig it out and provide it on Project.IRC. It's based off the Hexchat client. EDIT: Hang on Akira, you're not even registered on #abime.net...... You've already abandoned it Last edited by DH; 13 November 2017 at 15:53. |

If you open up an alternative chat channel to IRC, people will go there instead. Actually, those not on IRC already would probably not get in it, especially with the alternatives. I noticed a bunch of people use Tapatalk chat on EAB, too, and wished those guys would join IRC. I also made this thread! but no one cares I know I'm holding on to an old horse, but I like this old horse! |

I have updated post #1 which has reduced the need to make a post in here.
You'll now have to join the EAB social group "EAB on Slack" in order to obtain the invite link. The group cannot be joined by guests so the invite link is now secure and is now only accessible to EAB members. I thought this would be a sensible method for our security. EDIT: /DH is very lonely in this group Last edited by DH; 14 November 2017 at 14:05. |

IRC LIVES!
In all honesty, I feel like, as said before, people go for convenience, so unless this is somehow bolted onto Facebook, most people will not bother. More and more people only use Facebook online, they might as well make "Facebook OS" and get sucked into MArk Zuckerberg's shitty VR world. |
