A1200 Schematics Rework

All the A1200 schematics I've downloaded are all in PDF format and are for want of a better word, squinty. Not really bothered about this, I was just wondering if anybody has ever reworked the A1200 schematics and released a tidied up version with the schematic files attached.

I fancy doing this (I need the practice) but only if it hasn't already been done.

I would love it, if you could get all manuals for your project.
I cant believe no one has originals and never posted them.

I did say (somewhere) that I was a file junkie.

I'm going to start with the A1200 Rev2 PCB since I have 2 x 2B's.
I'll probably be using DesignSpark free (closed source). DesignSpark doesn't have any restrictions on board size which is needed, although I need to checkout it's file format's, there will need to be an output to a standard format that any EDA software can open, preferably without losing data.

Pretty, pretty please . High res scans of the original 1200 schematics would be excellent and would help a lot for the work I am doing.

I'm going to have to do a thorough investigation into open-source and closed source (free) EDA software. Board size limits, import/export capabilities etc. Initial investigation into DesignSpark is not looking good, DXF is only for drill and outline, and other file format limitations e.g. no export to STEP or IGES files.

I wouldn't be surprised if I end up with the same setup as I've got with my DVD editing software kit, comprising of about 30 different software applications including pgcEdit, DVDSubEdit, Virtualdub, avisynth, etc, etc. And that was just to put custom menu's on a few films from newspapers.

Sorry it's taken so long....

Just located the A1200 service manual and did some fresh A3 size scans at 300dpi.

LOL, there wasn't any rush, I'm doing a little bit here and there, but not much at the moment. I'm not intending to do much work on this project until next year as I am focusing on the AMOS manuals this year. Even that's going at a snails pace while I move house and do a massive clearout of old unfinished projects so I can concentrate on the technical writing projects.

These HI-Res will be a great help for converting the images to circuits. Thanks again for the excellent scans .

KiCad. i wasnt happy with the geda pcb capabilities some years ago and so bought eagle 5, and then learned about KiCad which sounded pretty good. I'd love to see KiCad ported to Amiga as well.

step? isn"t that a 3d cad file? I don't know what iges is. for schemtics, 3d doesn't sound interesting. for pcb, maybe, but to make a pcb you want gerber or some other pcb format like odb++.

Thanks bilit, Kicad was the one I settled on for it's integration of EDA tools, file format support and libraries.

Been wanting to do this for a while and since I can't currently afford to learn electronics buy buying small kits to practice on, I thought I'd start with getting experience with schematics.

I've got the ball rolling on this and have attached the first wip pages of the schematics below.

If you spot any errors or have any tips feel free to post and let me know.

Couple of questions and points:
At the right of the schematic you will notice a 16R4 chip, is this a Programmable Array Logic Chip or something altogether different?

On the MC68881 chip I have forgotten to add the VCC label to _Size (pin 18). I'll get that fixed in the next release.

You will notice some gate component graphics are not displayed properly. this is either due to Kicad not properly defining the curved lines as ellipses when plotting to svg. When opened in Inkscape it just draws them as polylines. Either that or it's Inkscape's implementation of svg that's causing some problem.

I'll need to figure out what I'm going to do as a result of the svg problem. I wouldn't need svg if Kicad allowed the schematic to be scaled. I might ditch Kicad and try out Designspark, we'll see.

And finally, I'll probable be doing a couple of pages a month due the time spent on other projects.

I will continue doing what I'm doing as I want to take the project beyond the schematics, not to mention the learning and experience. [Edit] My personal work (not the schematics) will be released under the BSD license.


One issue with the work done. Although excellent they are licenced under Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported (CC BY-NC-ND 3.0), I don't actually think that can be legally done.

Attribution — You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).

Noncommercial — You may not use this work for commercial purposes.

No Derivative Works — You may not alter, transform, or build upon this work.

Did the web site get legal permission to change the distribution license.


[Edit 09/11/12 by MadAngus] I'm guessing but I think the license is used not to claim any copyright or distribution right, but to indicate that the schematics cannot be used to recreate the mainboard for commercial purposes without the prior consent and licensing from the patent holders.
