RPG recommendation

Right then, I don't think I've ever played an RPG. Any recommendations of what is a good one for a newbie on the Amiga? Bear in mind the only manuals etc I'll have will be those I can find on the net...

Well, that's a quite tough nut to crack, but surely worth a 'look'

I'd say Champions Of Krynn if you like turn based games or Eye Of The Beholder for real time are good starters. Amberstar is also a good starter.

Yeah my vote is for Eye of the Beholder, I really enjoyed playing it through... A good mix of puzzles and fighting using ad&d ruleset... Plus if you really enjoy it you can take your characters into Eye of the Beholder 2, which is more or less the same with different colours and new features.

TCD suggests some of the greatest RPGs, but Ultima VI is definitely worth a shot, too.

Maybe give Dungeon Master a try. Still one of the best RPGs on the miggy.

That series including Chaos Strikes Back and DM2 have always been my 2nd favourite.

Legends of Valour and Dungeon Master 2 are my favorite amiga RPGs.

That could lead to HDD installation issues.

Try Might & Magic II or Phantasie III. Ultima IV isn't bad either.

I'd really say start with Dungeon Master to get a feel for the genre and enjoy its puzzles. Its not really a huge game so it won't take weeks to complete. After that I would go for a story oriented game, like EOB.

I never got into Dungeon Master because figuring out spells without the manual took too much effort back then.

??? The spells aren't in the manual. They are given to you on scrolls found in the dungeon throughout the game.

Even if it were true or not, not a problem anymore

I managed to get very far without a manual back then; its part of the challenge to find the spells. Of course on a second play through the game is all of a sudden a whole lot easier

Thanks for all the recommendations guys. Think I might check out 'Champions of Krynn' and maybe later 'Dungeon Master' as I have actually heard of that one.

Didn't know that there were 'official' Dungeons & Dragons RPGs on the Amiga. Do they use the actual rules? Never played D&D, either on pen and paper or otherwise. There seem to be two subseries, as far as I can tell from HoL - 'Dragonlance' and 'Forgotten Realms', is that right? Is HoL's list here complete (and why is Buck Rodgers listed there?!)

Yes, mostly Realms and Lance. All are more or less true to the 2nd ed rules.

Buck Rogers was also adapted by TSR and subsequently SSI, and feels mostly like the other gold box games. If you want more info consult [ Show youtube player ].

Some games on that list don't really use the AD&D system, but are set in the campaign worlds of AD&D (Heroes of the Lance for example).
