Blizzard 1230 IV Battery

Hi,

I have a Blizzard 1230 IV, which I bought over ten years ago. It's got one of those button cell batteries. Not only has the battery not leaked, but it also still works. Is there any reason for concearn, and should I replace it, or will it be just fine?

Mine seemed fine...but I removed it anyway

If I ever need the clock I'll be remotely mounting the new one.

The battery on the B1230 is a Vanadium-Lithium accumulator, Type VL2020. These batteries can not leak because their electrolyt is a non-aqueous solvent.

i have recently bought and installed one of those button cell battery holders and soldered it to the blizzard. afterwards read that the cr2032 would likely blow up in that construction. then i bought a vl2020 and saw that the legs wouldn't fit to the blizzard. so i cut off the legs and put the vl2020 in the battery cell holder. did not test this construction in the amiga yet - but if contact is there it should work this way as well ?!? what do you think?

I just replaced the CR2032 battery out of my Roland JD-800, rather an arse-clenching experience, I *believed* the patch data was saved, looked at the schematic for it, battery only comes into play with the power off, so changed with power on.

Bottom line, I replaced this battery after more than 15 years, it still had voltage of 3.11V, but better to be safe. NiCd batteries leak, NiMH, don't know and this battery you describe, don't know that specific type either, if you're that worried, keep a service schedule and physicaly inspect the battery every month.

Well the battery on my Blizzard 1260 (VL2020) was fine... in a similar pique of curiosity (i.e. "Do I need to change this given its age?") I "broke" it My 1260 is now battery-less until I can be arsed getting a new one soldered on.

all i can say is cutting of the legs of a vl-2020 and using it in a coin battery cell holder works good for my 1230-iv. i have tested it for some time now. although if i had to do it again i would change the side of the board like anemos did.
