Got my Cd32 - but problems !!

Hi all,
Isn`t it annoying when you look forward to getting something new and it does not work as you expected it to ?
Well my newly aquired CD32 with Analogic Floppy drive attatchment seemed great at first, then I noticed two things - the control pad does not work properly when the Floppy drive is plugged in and I play a CD32 game, I lose the use of the blue button and sometimes the shoulder buttons, is this normal ?, does the floppy drive turn it into a single fire button machine ?

The other problem, even more annoying - it refuses to play backups, I`ve tried all the usual things, burn Iso image at 1xspeed, tried a few different brands of CD, tried a few different ISO burning progs, Nero, Image burn, Clone, etc. Could this be the Lens ?
Is there a `tweak` I try on the laser, or is it a case of replacement ?
It did read a few audio cd backups ( 3 out of 10 that I tried )

I want to be happy with my new Toy, please help !!

Hi daznic,

Here is a thread concerning Analogic's CD32 disk drive expander unit:
http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=33303
I haven't read it myself. I hope it answers your questions.

NO problem will be expected with a humble external disk attached.

Wrong burned media is another matter! Amiga (and any other Unix OS, for that matter) have different protect bits on archives, very different to win-sucks machines. If you unpack an ISO or directly Amiga archives on a peecee you will render the CD unusable.

I used to have this and had the same problem with he buttons. I had to take it off to play CD32 games.

If you having trouble with buning, try Deepburner, i use this and it always works for me. And its free.

Well, the floppy problem seems normal then, oh well.
But as for the backups not working, I will try what you suggest but I`ve got a feeling the Laser is weak.
I`ll also try burning some audio cd`s, if they all work then it may be my burning method, or do audio cd`s require less laser power ?
trying to solve this between major house decorating !

I normally select burn ISO image, i choose the ISO, chnage the write speed from MAX to my lowest speed which is 8x and it works. I have used so many different brand CDrs too including cheap WHSMith own brands and they all work with that.

Hmmm, not sure what you mean here.

Cause ISO is a universal format, I have done loads of iso's on Amiga and burnt them back to CD's using Bindows.

If your talking about extracting the ISO (the contents to a folder in bindows), then maybe.

The CD32 will still not read any CDr`s, also is struggling with two originals which are very lightly scratched, the disc has to be perfect and clean.
Guess it must a laser problem, I`ve tried cleaning it - still no good.
I found a couple of guides for re-aligning the laser lens, but a conflicting suggestion that the alignment should not be touched, just tweak the screw next to the laser instead - this apparently increases the voltage. Also there is a compatible Sony laser available as a replacement.

Any suggestions before I rip into it ?

Cheers !

I know others bang on about the re-aligning. All I will say is DONT do it, its the laser at fault.

Turn the laser pot clockwise a little, and see if it helps, if it seems better, try turning it abit more. If its still the same then the laser is screwed.

Just replace it, I have posted before on where to obtain the lasers. CPC (http://cpc.farnell.com/_/kss210a-rep...kup/dp/AS00346) and Charles hyde and son (http://www.chsinteractive.co.uk/sear...l?query=LAS127) sell them.

Its a KSS-210A, you will be needing.

There is 1 other slim possability, sometimes the spindle motor causes problems. Simply remove the motor PCB and spray some WD40 into the motor. then run it, to clean the crap out of the motor.
As I say though, its a possability.
