Ebonstar

There's a somewhat obscure game that I'm quite fond of called Ebonstar and there doesn't appear to be a WHDLoad version of the game. It's an interesting game in that it supports four players (it may have been the first such game) and it's quite a bit of fun. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to take a crack (no pun intended) at it. There is an SPS version out there and I'd be willing to provide a sealed original if that would help.

Loved that game with four players. Two on joysticks and two on the keyboard. Great stuff.

Hi,

I would like to second that request, if I may.
Ebonstar appears to bear some innovative elements, not often seen in arcade-styled shooters with rotating spaceships (like this moving 'black hole'). Not too sure about the playability of the 4-player mode, still a nice addition...

Thanks for making us aware of this game, dude.

Hi

I just uploaded into the zone the very first version of WHDLoad Ebonstar. On my A1200 030 BlizIV and 32MB game works. This game was written in MANX C. The slave is very simple ( modified generic slave for MANX + assign disk ). I found some info about control of ships in HOL ( miscshot ) and I added that jpg picture to the archive ( only temporary ofcoz ). Probably this game need more fixes and I still testing this game. Of course any remarks, ideas are welcome.

Regards

Sorry.

My Amiga 1200 is temporarily out of commission while I reorganize my computer room. I'll have it set up again in a day or two and I'll give you a thorough report on how the slave works. Thanks for your efforts.

From the better late than never file...

I got a chance to try out Ebonstar and unfortunately things didn't work too well. To start the game you have to press the space bar or you can press enter to start the demo but it appears that both keys put me into demo mode so I wasn't able to get a game going.

Am I missing something obvious?

Hi, Yesterday I find some time to look into this game and after few ( maybe more ) hours of analyzation of code I found and fixed that problem. That was protection in this game. But there is still something wrong I think, coz in game you can't move ship with cursors ( on title screen cursors works fine and you can choose joystick and game works ). If I find some time I will look deeper. If you interested I can put into zone new version of Ebonstar. About protection: Game checks ticks in datestamp in disk name ( es2: ). If value is different then expected then you game works in demo mode.

Regards

Care to elaborate? Because I can't see how this can be a protection. As you could still copy the disk without problems and the protection would not be triggered. Or do I misunderstand something here?

Hi StingRay.

Try to install ( its dos game ) and launch this game from HD . You know make drawer with name like in disk and make assign, then game runs in demo mode I guess. Of course its not protection like in other games, maybe better is call it encumbrance, so you're right its not protection.

cheers

lol, I looked into miscshot on HOL http://hol.abime.net/2822/miscshot and everything works fine, coz I tried to move ships with cursors .
Mean there is no errors with cursors, game works. Yesterday after analyzation of code I found highscore and I will add feature: highscore ---> Hd and then I will release this game.

Hi Haynor,

First thank you for patience.

Ebonstar is finished and I uploaded it to the Zone. Install is done and there is only one thing to do, make icons. So In few days I should sent install to WHDLoad page ( I must learn again how make newicon and find proper email for releases ).

Regards

Well, I think I lost interest in amiga so I don't mind if you never make install. It was nice Gods rip off but I'll probably never play it again.
