spdif?
just a thought. has anyone tried making audio spdif out (coax or optic) for Amiga? seems to me that hi-fi equipment is moving toward spdif. people use more and more PC with hdd instead of CD player. it would be nice to have Amiga connect directly to some hi-fi DAC. then there would be no more difference in sound quality with PC.

@thomas
I was referring to playing mp3 or flac. since spdif is digital, it should be possible to bypass Paula. just convert it somehow. like those external mp3 decoders. they don't use Paula, right? |

Then Reynolds' post answers your question, doesn't it? He says that there are sound cards for Amiga with SPDIF output. But that's not Amiga in its narrow meaning. A sound card in an Amiga is the same as a sound card in a PC. You don't need an Amiga to have a sound card.

hm, yes. he didn't name any, though.
but what is Amiga in 'narrow meaning'? what about RTG, perhaps that's not Amiga either. spdif out that I wish would mix Paula output with HQ audio. similar to HDMI (mentioned here) using digital signals from Alice and combining it with, say, RTG output. |

All You need is capture data from Paula, convert them to constant speed and transmit by S/PDIF - constant speed can be achieved by using none of many available ASRC.
http://www.analog.com/en/audiovideo-...s/product.html http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folder...t/src4194.html or use decent audio ADC, convert analog signal from Paula to digital and with one of S/PDIF transmiters send digital audio |
