Which are free AdWare on Google Playstore anyways ....

They get probably paid by the developers to promote it and not the other way round ...

You guys are being pretty mean.

None of the other game jam posts have been met with any type of hostility so there shouldn't be any here. Regardless of what you think of this new company, there's obviously good intentions.

Worst case is the community gets a bunch of new games.

Is there?
To me it honestly looks like they are trying to rip people off.
A plain android tablet with a cheap sticker for double the price?
Very good intentions ... sure.

What was that proverb about "good intentions" again? And why "obviously"...how do you know that?

Yeah, I'm being pretty mean, but there are good reasons for being so, what with so many chancers who have been trying to jump on the retro-gravy train in the last decade or so. Therefore I don't care much for good intentions, please show me some concrete and meaningful initiatives instead. These do not include an AI-designed website with a dropshipped generic tablet sold with +100% markup, or a gormless "game jam" which can't be even bothered to define itself properly and spell "c64" correctly.

Well i'd suggest to give them the benefit of the doubt but still hold onto your reservations- another Amiga game jam can be beneficial- and maybe this new Commodore can contribute something positive to the community or not. I feel though if they are met with open and unabated hostility we will simply make enemies of them- that can serve nobody and nothing, save to lead to endless threads full of griping and infighting. A commodore tablet does not interest me personally either- do they have anything more interesting in the pipeline i wonder? I'm not sure where the trademark thing stands... it may be murky.

Well I guess we had enough bad experience in the past, to raise suspicion.

If you go through the homepage these suspicions only grow higher ... very generic page with lots of buzzword-bullshitting.
They are selling exactly one (1, uno) real product besides licensed mini-games and that is nothing more than a overpriced android tablet with a custom sticker on the back.

Yet they have a "Chief Executive Officer", a "Development Manager" and a "Sales Manager"

I mean who are these guys? Has anybody heard of them before?

They chose a very awkward way to introduce themselves to the retro-community, they are obviously targeting.
It all feels artificial ... there is no authenticity at all.

The goal of the "game jam" is clear to me:
find some nice but cheap IP to publish Android and Windows, via packaged emulator.

That's way they even encourage "clones" as long as no original content is used, and prefer "Scorpion Engine" for Amiga, since it targets direkt emulator integration...

Mailing Address: Kalkofnsvegur 2, Reykjavik, Capital Region, 101, IS
That is probably, where the "Inc" was created for tax avoiding and less regulations.

Commodores new "CEO" Luigi Simonetti also has a real job, in Germany:

These are the same people from this thread:http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=110067

You can read the history from the link Daedalus posted later on there, and also I found their trademark filing.

You can say that is a "legitimate" company, seeing as the trademark for "Commodore Engineering" was granted to them. For me it still means nothing though, for the reasons I already stated above. So far they have shown absolutely nothing of substance, on the contrary, everything is rather sketchy and at best can be described half-assed (like this pathetic Kickstarter)

I've already asked the OP some questions in their AtariAge thread and the replies were either vague, evasive, or non-existent (like the one about how come the tablet they apparently "designed" is the same as the generic one I managed to find in a 10 minute web search).

I'm all up for being positive and welcoming but there needs to be some basis for that, given the long history of trust abuse by many bad actors, not only in Amiga community but all the other retro ones.

Wow!

Look at this answer:

"quick answers: You own the factory? yes The tablet is designed by you? yes"

That is an obvious lie! Directly into your face!

That's prove I got the right feeling right away - scammers.

the fact that anyone has to go all detective to post evidence to what is obviously an attempt to quickly cash in on a brand's name recognition, shows how self harming gullibility lots of people have in this community. this is the main reason we get done over so many times.

"give the benefit of the doubt", why? like if anyone has ever had a situation where that was given and the offenders turned out to be nice.

but hey if you are that gullible, i may have a brand new face5 accelerator to sell you, just send me some hundred euros, i promise i'll send you back a working unit
