Dune 1 - flickering

Hi, does anyone experience some flickering issues with Dune 1 WHDload?
This happens everytime you are entering a location or a sietch (cave), the screen flickers a bit on and off for few secs throughout the game?


Maybe I'm using a wrong whd version?

I think this is WHDLoad loading data from hard disk.

If you have enough additional memory, you might be able to enable PRELOAD in the icon tooltypes (IIRC that's the parameter anyway, check the documentation to be sure). That should fix it.

As much as I could need I guess It's emulation on a pi400, I tried with both Pimiga and Amibian, and if I remember correctly also via Retroarch, so I guess the issue is within the WHD itself?

I have no flickering with winuae.

AFAIK, it seems the slave is fine. I tested it on two different real hardware setups.

As pointed out above, the first things to check are the memory settings in your emulation setup and whether you have the WHDLoad preload option turned on. The screen going black intermittently during loading from HD (as in 'using a real hard drive') takes place when the amount of available RAM is low. You can also try if you get the same when loading/playing games such as King's Quest IV or other early 90s adventures that rely a lot on the HD.

whdload PRELOAD will try to load as much data as possible given the available memory.

If emulation memory is too low you'll get flickering with PRELOAD, and not a clear error that could have tipped you off.

Note: no slave can force a read from within the slave. The slave can't be at fault in those cases, only whdload options or memory setup.

Hi,

I have exactly this same problem with Kyrandia in WHDload... The screen flickers on each new screen during one second average...

Maybe this isuue is related ?

Issue resolved, A500 and Jotd are right,
After few tests, it is a lack of memory that causes this problem.A minimum of 8 Mo "Z2 fast" RAM is necessary for kyrandia in WHDLOAD with WinUAE... Maybe that would solve your problem with DUNE?
