Post Music-ripping idea

Not sure if this is the correct forum, but here I go..

I was wondering.. There are plenty of different music fileformats containing ripped music from games, demos etc which all requires a suitable replayer.
I've noticed in the console world (NES, SNES etc.), ripped music are always in one format (.nsf/.spc), and this format also contains the replayercode, so the player application "only" contains an emulator for the CPU.

Imagine this, instead of .mod, .thx etc etc. you could have one fileformat with embedded replayer instead.
Perhaps this is a massive project and requires some talented coding/ripping-skills but I just wanted to share the idea anyway.. :-)

http://sc68.atari.org/project.html

Edit: It looks like they exclude .mod from there due to mod-players already being common as mud for most platforms, but still it looks like something you were looking for.

For the peecee you have a PSF plugin for Winamp, allowing you to play PS1 and PS2 music. Wish there was something like that on the Amiga.

Not a very good idea... You need to emulate the system the player is natively coded for, which eats up a lot of resources. Keep it simple, small and fast! TM

And inaccurate, judging by most available .mod players. :P
