GuruNet

Has anyone had any experience with setting up GuruNet on an A1200? I have been pulling out my hair getting the card set up. The amiga is speaking to the card via the plipbox.device however it seems to have a great deal of trouble sorting out the dns servers. I have listed one as the ip address of my router and the second dns as 8.8.8.8. Currently I am using MiamiDX, it seems to connect in Miami but when I try to ping 8.8.8.8 I get: unknown error code ret=-1. I am not sure where to go from here.

Have you setup the Gateway IP? I.e this is normally the Router Address. Something like 192.168.1.254 etc…

MiamiDX can also be a bit of a pain to setup. I tend to use the Miami V3 setup wizard and save the settings as a file then import it in via MiamiDX.

I believe I did in the initial Miami settings but I will check it again. I will try Miami 3 set up to see if that works. Trying to review the GuruNet for the next issue of WhatIFF? and been stuck like this for days lol.

I just had an idea, my router is using IPv6, could this be causing a problem for the Amiga? Switching my router back to IPv4, would that make it easier for the Amiga to connect? What information should I use from this screenshot?

No IPV6 evident in your screenshot. Is this after you have switched off IPV6?

From that secreenshot you can see that your Amiga should live in the 192.168.11.0 network, with an IP that has the final octet between the range of 2-254

Yes, this is after I turned off IPv6, so the gateway IP address should be 192.168.11.0 instead of 192.168.11.1?

The address 192.168.11.0 identifies your network, it can't be a GW.
Looking at your screenshot the GW seems to be 192.168.11.1 since it is your router IP address.
From my experience your troubles can be due to the plipbox and not to a misconfiguration. Unfortunately that device is very picky...

That is what I thought, I had set up the gateway IP as 192.168.11.1, the Amiga IP address as 192.168.11.25. When I checked the plipbox.device in Miami it showed that it was communicating with the Amiga. Maybe as you said the plipbox is not happy with my router. The DNS servers for MiamiDX, they should be the gateway IP and 8.8.8.8, is that correct though? I am unable to ping anything getting the
=-1 error.

Try just using 8.8.8.8 as a dns server, it should still work if the problem is related to the dns (unlikely).

I put the dns server as 8.8.8.8 only, interface definition: ip address: 192.168.11.25, netmask: 255.255.255.9, gateway: 192.168.11.1, all settings are set to static. When I click connect on Miami it shows no error but when doing a ping to 8.8.8.8 I still get the error: wrote 8.8.8.8 64 chars, ret=-1

I am guessing it is just the GuruNet plipbox being too picky for my router

Was 255.255.255.9 a typo? Should be 255.255.255.0

Of course the netmask should be 255.255.255.0, probably you wanted to say so.

The first thing you should try to ping is your GW/router (192.168.11.1).
If you can't ping it you won't ping anything else for sure.

Unfortunately I think that the problem is the plipbox. Are you using the 0.6 version of drivers? Are you using the version that matches your cpu?

You could try to put a file on your EnvARC:SANA2 directory (if you don't have that directory simply create it) named plipbox.config and write on it the word "NOBURST" (all together without "")

It should be done from a cli with following command:
> makedir EnvARC:sana2
> echo NOBURST > EnvARC:sana2/plipbox.config

I use a plipbox on my A500T and when it doesn't work (sometimes it is connected but it doesn't ping my GW) I have to unplug it from the serial port, detach the power cable, re-attach the power cable and reset a few time the plipbox pushing the reset button on top of it. Once I've done so I re-plug the plipbox to the serial port and reboot my computer. Usually at the next boot it works.

Out of a matter of interest. You are also using an external power connector for the plipbox?

I may have asked this in the past? But why a plipbox when the A1200 supports PCMCIA network cards and is far easier to get going.
I take it you have something else plugged into the PCMCIA?

Yes, I am using an external power connector, when I query the device in Miami I get the GuruNet/Plipbox MAC address.

I usually use a PCMCIA Wifi card but this time I am using the GuruNet for a review for WhatIFF?, just never imagined it would be this tough though.

Hi Amifan, did you solve your issues with the gurunet eventually?

UPDATE:
I just saw on your other thread that you have a review of it in the second issue of WhatIFF so I guess you have been able to use it.

Hi, yes I finally managed to get it working, it was quite involving so I decided to do a review and guide in the next issue to help others in my position But you were right, it was the NOBURST causing the issue, thanks for you help!
