Interesting. The big question is, was there a passthrough on the trapdoor card? If not, plugging this in meant no extra expansion card, so no fastram, no 68030 + mmu, no fpu, no scsi interface.
I hope the card had a passthrough otherwise it might have been a bit of a dead end with regards to expansions. |

Trapdoor interface with akiko and 68030 socket doubling as accelerator, it supported CD32 games on A1200, or at least its intended goal, not sure if they reached that far.
Screen shot from Beth Richards comment who was the engineer working on the CD1200. Last edited by modrobert; 02 December 2017 at 20:15. |

Not really sure what corner turn memory is but if she's saying this could have come with fast ram and a 68030 in a later iteration then yes, it would have been pretty sweet.

In the leaked Amiga OS 3.1 source archive there are (if I remember correctly) one or more Kickstart ROM images for the CD1200. I wonder if that's enough to ever emulate this some day...

There is already a project on fb to crowdfund this and David Pleasance and Dave Haynie are involved: https://www.facebook.com/groups/538217366519190/

Beth Richard is a semi-active member a SAACC, the folks who put on Ami-West and was a regular attendee, at least when I lived there. She has a CDTV-CR and all kinds of other goodies as well.

This will be nuts if it is ever made to run/work but what would just blow me away is somebody going the whole hog and churning a bunch of them out to buy!
CD is old hat I guess but for the Amiga it never fails to be viable, well in my head at least lol. I plan to get cd drives going again on my 4000, 2000 and 1200's so I would certainly be up for buying a CD1200 if it was ever finalized and they found a way of getting the Akiko hooked in, the trapdoor way was always going to be a problem! Unless they can bodge in some kind of in-the middle expansion? probably insane talk/ideas tbh lol. |
