Question MisTer SD Card Install ?

I have been looking at how to Prepare the SD Card on a Mac for MiSTer and what is involved to do this on a Mac to me is like trying to jump a 4 foot
fence when when you can only jump a 3.

I did find what was/is called a beginners guide but it still seems to leave things out like where should the files be on the Mac when doing this, no mention of what folders are possibly pre required on the Mac, and if the card needs a certain name to be recognized by the MiSTer.

If you have to pre prepare the card what is on the Installed SD Card that comes with the DE10 Nano ?

Linux basically. Along with manuals, examples etc.

You can download the latest version here if you want to rebuild it :

I can't answer that on a Mac I'm afraid, I have an ideological aversion to them.

A google suggest using etcher https://osxdaily.com/2018/01/11/writ...rd-mac-etcher/

For setup of the MiSTer SD card via Mac (or Linux) the instructions say to go here:

Thanks for the pointer, and I may have to follow that if I can, I really need hand holding with terminal stuff

I have now found somebody selling pre configured SD Cards, now I can Plug n Play

It's just how it is with these projects...they're not for the faint of heart. I've spent two evenings battling my ZX Uno and so far got only one core going. The main site/forum is in Spanish

I don't think it particularly helps that the MiSTer documentation is not the best (tbh the bane of many a project because messing with code is *far* more fun than documentation) and is arguably terrible in places.

Vast amounts are out of date, point to contradictory things or tell you to do things that you don't need to do (but once did).

I spent _ages_ messing with the "Arcade" ROM's only to find there was a script that did it all...and then finding that the script was designed to work _on_ the MiSTer linux side rather than run "locally" on a machine.

Equally where to put the games etc, nowhere made it clear.

To be _slightly_ fair to the MiSTer devs they're treading a fine line with the copyright ownership on the arcade ROMs....but it was still an arse to find out how it could actually have been much easier.

The scripts from that github link are what I used to set mine up. It worked like a charm.

I did say in my OP that I am trying to do this on a Mac, also some of us
find using the terminal and scripts a little awkward. I ended up buying a
pre prepared card but I would rather create my own. Windows users have an install
tool that creates a card all ready to use - SD-InstallTool_Win_MiSTer.

Be nice to have something like that for the Mac.

Yeah, I'm also on a Mac, which is why I mentioned that I used the github link, which goes to a repo called 'MiSTer SD card installer script for macOS and Linux'.

I think that you're going to find that there's very little about the MiSTer that's just 'plug and play'. There's a fair amount of tweaking for almost every core it supports, and that's even more true with the computer cores like the Amiga. The whole thing is exacerbated by the fact that as cool as it is, it's not particularly well documented.

Maybe so, but at least there's a forum and some active user base.

I've just bricked my ZX Uno (and have to send it back for reprogramming) , thanks to complete lack of any info / wrong info / info in Spanish only. That board is the Hardcore Level of FPGA nicheness confusion

Well, I mean the atari-forum, when it's back up and running. They also have a reddit sub I think.

I think they ditched the atari forum (which has been down for the last few days, anyway) in favor of their own forum, which I think just went live last night: https://misterfpga.org/

There are a couple of reddit communities, but they seem to be pretty low traffic.

Finally, a dedicated forum. Looks good! Joined as well.

The MiSTer-specific reddits are pretty much dead, but there 's some general "fpga" one which deals mostly with MiSTer. Still, I don't really like reddit and treat it only as a last chance saloon, so a new forum is good news indeed.
