PCMCIA extension cable?
I finally found one PCMCIA SRAM card for my memory-poor A600, my other (1MB) A600 is looking with envy
Now, I'm really short on desk space where the A600 is sitting, it would be really nice to move the big and bulky PCMCIA SRAM card out of the way, *inside* the Amiga. The question is: does anyone know where to get a PCMCIA extension cable? I've tried Googling but can't find any. I'm not too good at soldering but a few PCMCIA connectors and a working piece of e.g. SCSI cable could do the trick, too! Anyone got any pointers? (Or better ideas?) A similar extension would be very suitable for quick data transfer on CF between Amiga and PC... So, if I ever find a solution, I'll be using it for both PCMCIA/CF and PCMCIA/SRAM |

The only PCMCIA extender I ever saw was 15cm long, and costs an absurd (~200USD, IIRC).

I had a chat with Zetr0 and he said only short cables (10-15cm) are likely to work... I guess the signals are pretty weak then.
The extensions seem scarce indeed. I'd be really interested if someone could make a few; I could even pay for it And I'm sure I'm not the only one - I guess many people would be glad to get the PCMCIA card out of the way... |

LMFAO, .
Funny enough, I was also thinking of this, as my A600 which my kids use, has a 2MB SRAM card, which sticks out to far. I was at my previous job, when I was thinking of adding an extension cable. At my last job however, we lacked the tools to remove the connector cleanly, so I decided not to risk it. Now Im at amigakit, I will have to look into it, as its obviously a common problem and people obviously want this. Ill have to make a note and come back to it. |

Sounds a good idea, I'd like to put my PCMCIA LAN card inside my A1200. Not only does it look a bit obtrusive sticking out, but I'm always frightened of snapping it off.

Good luck with the project, hopefully it will come into fruition (or however it's supposed to be phrased). |

EDIT:- Been thinking on this, and checking out a few things. What im thinking of is a simple plugin that will redirect the port inside. Still have alot to think about but will have to leave it there for the moment. Last edited by FOL; 17 January 2009 at 21:11. |

Would be handy to get those network cards tucked away inside perhaps.

Any updates on this? I also need a good and not-expensive solution for that problem...

If it was possible,a redesign motherboard would fix it,putting the interface further-in,but if it was possible would also add hardware reset.
Perhaps a desolder of the PCMCIA interface altogether, then add a new PCB may work, but it all looks very tight to me,those chips just behind connector may have to move too. I do have the eject clip-on adapter for A1200,but this is only useful for tower users. |

Someone in Poland is designing a new PCMCIA SRAM card in Poland. The prototype was the same size as current cards but I don't see any reason why the final one would need to be that size. Maybe you can petition them to make it smaller?
http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=73095 Changing the A1200/A600 motherboard is impractical. |

How about using an angled PCMCIA connector?
this will make the pcmcia card stick upwards, but leave plenty of space on the table. |
