I do not think those restrictions are good idea, as we could block new members who want to share their stuff (like games they were working on) or looking for help with code or some interesting pictures.

How about no link posting for the first 20 posts?

The key similarity with these spammers is they only post links. Ban links for the first 20 posts, they don't get to post.

AmiBay auto moderates any new members posts that contain links until they have at least two approved posts.

Proably 4 of the 7 global mods don't visit or post that much anymore, so it's left to the other 3 to do everything, or DamienD on his own as he stated previously.

Even if they could all agree on something, which is doubtful when they are arguing against doing something about it anyway, they cannot do it themselves.

Maybe something will happen when RCK moves to XenForo, but the mod team could defaintely do with new blood or at least a bit of a shake up

another suggestion: i would like to dispose of this spam without having to report it. it would take work from your shoulders.
don't worry, i'm not asking for a full moderator rank, i ask just for enough permission to be able to do this cleaning work.

our agreement could be set up like this that i would be allowed to delete these spamposts only, no other actions allowed.
and i might be kicked from that rank immediatly if i abuse this permission and do anything else which has not been allowed.
btw. today's spam was even reported as malware by panda endpoint protection which i'm using on windows 7 machine...

It's a good idea, but even without link they will advertise for their website.com no ?

The common theme of all the latest spammers over the past 4 months or so is every single one posts a collection of links.

Indeed, and doesn't EAB already recognize URLs as links and turns them to links automatically? So if they just write website.com it could possibly get recognized as a link and act upon it.

I think this solution would work at the very least with the most insistent and resilient spambots we're being attacked with.

This really is the only way.

Automation will always be beaten eventually, a person clicking on a button will not.

I've seen elsewhere a "reputation" system, where people can give a +1 to a persons reputation on posts that are helpful or insightful or whatever. Also a -1 can be given to peoples reputation if they post spam or whatever.

Sure, it's not without it's own set of problems, but it's a suggestion for an alternative way of dealing with this problem. Spammers could be downvoted by people, and people could have their preferences set to only show posts/threads posted by someone with a 0 or higher by default. So for most people, spammers posts wouldn't even show if they were downvoted.

Just a thought.

That wouldn't really help against spammers, just against regular users that are sometimes massive knobs, like myself lol.

Spammers (or bots) would just post until the account was banned and then make another one.
