I'm sure that in the '90s I had a cracked copy of Dames Simulator. This is probably the english version of Dames Grand Maitre. HOL reports it is very rare. If this is really rare and someone is interested I could try to find it.

Judging from the shots it does indeed appear to be the same game so I've linked them.

Dames simulalor while having the same graphic aspect is not the english version
of Dames grand maitre. dames grand maitre still deserves 4 stars..... If Dames simulator was related to DGM, Wladimir Agafonov would then be credited as he was the program trainer. He is not credited anywhere on Dames Simulator, hence it's not the same game. |

I wonder, if Dames Simulator exists as real english version.
The scene released versions seems to be translated, at least scene group "MAD" claims it as translated. |

Judging from the DBS on HOL it seems a bit unprofessional to have a game in English while the credits on the title screen are still in French. If the DBS was taken from the scene releases, it would confort the idea it is not an official translation. From what I can see on MG, all the screenshots they have (for other versoins of the game) are French-only: http://www.mobygames.com/game/atari-st/dames-simulator On the other hand, the misc shot picture and the back box scan seem to indicate that at least the instructions were translated into English. Also note that the screenshots (although from the Atari ST version) on the back of the box scan are all in French. Ofc, this could be because they need to send screenshots to the box publisher and maybe the English translation was not ready at the time The fact that the box scan indicates "instructions in English" could well mean that instructions and only instructions have been translated. Otherwise, one would also expect "in-game text in English or something like that. But then, they also specify "notice en français" (more or less "instructions in French), so nothing really makes sense. Finally, regarding dlfrsilver's post, I quite agree with him, I don't think that DGM and Dames simulator are the same game. Related yes, but the same no. If wonder if is not the same as what happened with Bumpy, whose rights had been bought by Infogrames too, received a few changes and was released as Pop up!. Perhaps Infogrames purchased the rights for DGM and decided to get rid of the endorsing by Agafonov (to avoid paying royalties? Or because they thought it would hurt the sales, people thinking the game is AGA only and Agafonov having refused to change his name to Ecsfonov ), perhaps made a few changes and published it as Dames Simulators. I looked a bit online and it seems a while ago (near 2008 jduging from some elements in the texts) the founder of Cobra Soft made a tribute website (a bit unfinished it seems): http://www.cobrasoft.net I could not find anything useful for the current case. However, it can provide a way to contact him if need be. Edit: Looked a bit further online and looked that the CPC version: http://www.cpc-power.com/index.php?page=detail&num=664 Starting with Dames 3D Champion, they say: Quote:
Re-published by Cobra Soft in 1988 under the title "Dames Grand Maitre Junior (Ams-stram-Dames)", no changes compared to the 1987 version. Re-published by Infogrames in 1990 under the title "Dames Simulator", the game received a title screen. So it does not prove anything for the Amiga version, but it makes it very likely that it is the same game content-wise, although peripherals elements have been changed (title screen, endorsements, instructions). well explained,
on the other hand, it shows again a lack of HOL: there should splitted language entries for ingame, box, manual |
