Hi everyone, i been away for a while. I hope everyone is doing great! I know this may be a touchy subject, but what your feeling towards the new OS from Commodore- Amiga? Please don't this post as trolling in any way, I'm just wondering how everyone feels about it. Oh, to show you that i've been living under a rock i didn't even know that the Amiga OS was still being supported.

Well it's not AmigaOS, just a wannabe. Some users dig it but I don't get it. It's just Linux afterall, only coated with some Amiga-branding.

It's Linux Mint, which is dressed up with a custom theme. All else is just marketing hype which lures them a few ex Commodore users, some which probably don't even know what Linux is.

If you search for Amigaos4.1 you will find that it is still very much supported and you can run it with PPC amigas including classics with PPC accelerators, SAM boards and the new Amiga X1000.

Actually i thought it was really good for a freebie !!
Very flash orientated with a retro feel....It isnt workbench nor is it supposed to be as the C64 did not have a workbench...After all it was the C64X it was designed for. If you wants a Great workbench for a real Amiga use Amikit or similar....pretty impressive stuff ![]() Last edited by synchro; 18 June 2012 at 18:30. |

You're far better off running XP SP2 with the Amiga theme pack anyway.

I really... really don´t like the user interface of winuae though. Can´t really see how this one could be worse. Wait... It´s linux? Right, that´ll be worse.
The main thing that is wrong with Emulating amiga is that people, including me, fail to set the emulation up properly. Just loading and swapping adf files is the way 99% of people do it and its just not worth it for anything more than just trying out one specific game... and then probably giving up as keyboard/usb joypad controls will be just terrible. If you give the same attention to emulating though, be that with winuae or this linux thing or whatever, as you would if you were building your own Amiga, then it will probably be pretty good... like l´amiga project and stuff like that. It depends how much time you want to spend. But then again, if you´re that much interested then the only reason not to go for real hardware would be saving money... and then you will not be buying those expensive cusa rigs ![]() |

Yes, it's been said before but all this stuff should be in the public domain now, let's face it. Ok, apart from OS4 (personally NOT interested.)
It would be lovely if WinUAE consisted of installing, then clicking which machine you would like, then loading any game you want, harddrive or floppy, shouldn't matter. Not gonna happen when there's companies out there like "Commodore (pfft)," "Amiga Inc," "Cloanto," etc still trying to make a profit on a dead format. Fuck them, and shame on anyone for giving them money. |

@JuvUK yeah but just think of all the INCREDIBLE things you can do with OS4.1!!
Or "Commodore" OS Vision. Apparantly "for Commodore enthusiasts that is designed to unleash your creative potential and help you enjoy your computing experience to the fullest." Like a whole new computer experience ... just like when the original Amiga came out... OT btw, Cheltenham. Used to live there. Great town ![]() |
