VIC-20 Mega-Cart!

The VIC-20 Mega-Cart is the ultimate multi-cart for the VIC-20 that contains 179 cartridge games (I think that's every one ever released for the VIC-20) along with 53 tape/disk games and a bunch of applications (a terminal, a text editor, a finance program and a few music programs), programming languages & utilities (BASIC 4.0, Waterloo Structured BASIC, Forth, a couple of monitors, an assembler etc.) and more. If that weren't enough, it also includes a flexible RAM expander (3K, 8K, 16K or 32K+3K), a reset button and it works with both PAL and NTSC VIC-20s.

Anyway, this awesome device is finally shipping and as it happens, I'm the lucky so and so who received the first one!

Photographic evidence:

This thing is awesome and I highly recommended ordering one if you're into the VIC-20.

I like the picture of the 1970's funky disco action cart guy

I might get one or two of these, if my vic20's are still alive

Amazing that people are doing these things for the VIC-20 today I like how they used the classic design for the casing and cartridge. Seems to be the last cartridge you will ever need to plug in to your VIC-20.

Time to mention Robotic Liberation again? Yes, I think so

Anyhow, thanks for the heads up, that looks superb! Only downside is that there appears to be no way to put more stuff on it, which seems like something that would be useful.

Exactly! I've been joking around on the VIC-20 forum that I might glue my Mega-Cart into my VIC-20 (and I'm only half joking frankly).

That's true although it's a feature in that the idea was to create something that acted exactly like the original cartridges. Given that everything ever released on cartridge, including the RAM expanders, is in there, there isn't really anything left to add.

There are disk and tape based programs that didn't make it in due to space considerations so I'm using a uIEC as additional storage. This weekend I'm going to install the uIEC inside my VIC-20 to keep it all neat and tidy. I basically (no pun intended) have *all* VIC-20 software at hand.

BTW, it isn't just new hardware for the VIC-20. There is new software coming out all the time. Check out all the software released in 2008 and 2009. 28 years on and the VIC-20 is still alive. It's pretty impressive.

Disclaimer: I have no financial interest in the Mega-Cart. I'm just a really, really, really happy customer.
