Yeah, Youtube! experts. C64 PAL colors looks just fine to me.

Real C64, real Sony Trintrion TV, S-Video connection.

I guess it's just down to personal preference.

ANYWAY, back On-Topic.

For those Speccy owners who don't know what graphical feats their humble machine is capable of, feast your eyes on these gorgeous artworks!

Wonderful, aren't they?

Never read this before (palette change in NTSC or PAL)... this is interesting.

The ZX graphics video above is amazing!

Yeah, the palettes are noticeably different between NTSC and PAL, and even between different brands of monitor or TV! It's down to the way the circuitry for the display interprets the signals, which vary a lot, as I said.

Waiting for the next update of ZXSpin… is there a way to hack the settings file to redefine Kempston fire button 0 to button 3 in the meanwhile?

Some of the graphics on that ZX video are pretty amazing, but they're a far cry from what the C64 is capable of. I'm guessing you haven't seen many C64 demos?

The ULA+ can do that, Hewitson. We did a tapefile full of multi-colour (as in, rainbow processed) C64 pictures with the C64 palette - the ULA+ can display 64 colours from a palette of 256 now, with an attribute resolution of 8x1 pixels.

Granted, it's not original hardware though

Yes, I have, actually. Even if it's on WinVICE with one of the brighter, more colourful palettes.

We are playing Stainless Steel @ RGL this week ( https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/retr...rum-t1440.html ) . Interesting top/down scroller on speccy.

At the first I had issue recording it on ZX Spin, but Fuse emulator works much better and can output PNG screenshots.

This is a new video: "ZX DEV MIA REMAKES GAMES" by "Juanje Juega" that shows the final results of the contest. A must see.

The Spectrums colour was horrid (Saying this as a FAN or the British Spectrum)
Ironic, given it's name.

Most of my freinds who lived near me had spectrums, so for games swapping, it made sense.

My school mates had C64's and on visits to thier houses on the other side of town, I was VERY impressed with the graphics.

But let's not forget, these were times unlike today where you just go

and we by a Nintendo Switch, and an Xbone, and a PS4 because we can.

Back then you sat in the camp you were in, and threw rocks at the other side.

It was too expensive to do anything else.

Going back to the SPectrum though, it wasn't just it's lack of colours, it was the colour CLASH that was the issue.

I wrote a drawing program for my +3, and it was then that I finally understood the problem.

If i drew a line in, say, RED....and then close too it, I drew another line, in say BLUE.....the RED line would become BLUE.

They didn't even have to be touching. I'd guess maybe 5 or more pixels would be the "bleed". It was crazy.

Toward the end of the spectrums glory days, some developers started to master it but it was all too late.

Savage by....Firebird? is one that stuck in my memory as FINALLY making a Spectrum game that looked colourful, and cleverly worked with the bleed to hide it as best they could.

Honestly what I really didn't like in C64 (even today trying some emulators) was its poor definition due to blocky "pixels"... I even prefer Speccy's defects (color bleeding and unnatural color palette) compared to the poor defintion and blocky gfx of C64
Ok for more colors (C64 palette sucks too anyway) but after 10 mins it always caused a headache to me, especially in motion:

Too confusing for my eyes.

the pictures are impressive yes because they have only 8 colors and because some ppl insist making art there

anyone expert in videogaming from the 80s realize in seconds such pics comes from the spectrum

the spectrum lacked essential colors like brown and grey and orange
but specially brown and grey

such colors were present in the commodore 64/MSX and atari 8 bits computers which make their games looks far better

I've recently bought https://zxonline.net/game/alien-game/it/
and read "Turbo Sound device (2xAY)".... this isn't supported by ZXSpin 0.7, right?

For spectrum I always used Fuse on both Linux and Windows computers - http://fuse-emulator.sourceforge.net/

I also use Fuse core on RetroArch (RetroPie, Battocera and RetroArch+LaunchBox on PC).

Another emu that I have also installed is ZX Spin.

Spectaculator seems really nice emulator, but I just don't want to pay for it.

Do they support ULA color palette, ULA+ 64 colors, and support Turbo Sound (2xAY) audio mode, plus joystick support?
It's hard to find the "perfect" ZX Emu with everything inside

ZX Spin 0.7 (missing just 2xAY) and RetroVirtualMachine (no ULA+ 64 colors?) are the very best IMHO...
A ZX Spin update with 2xAY would be great... I hate having multiple programs to do the same things on my HD.
