Paul Woakes RIP

Paul Woakes died last summer on the 15th July 2017.

He programmed Mercenary, Damocles, The Dion Crisis, Encounter, Backlash and Legends of Valour.

I was severely impressed by Mercenary back on the A8, and I loved Damocles on the ST. RIP Paul Woakes.

Can't avoid being depressed by these news. He couldn't have been an old guy, was he? Probably just a few years older than me...

I was very sad to hear about this.
Mercenary is my favourite game of all time.
A few of us tried tirelessly to arrange an interview with Paul, sadly he withdrew completely from the computer side of life.

Legend of Valour is a game that inspired the whole "The Elder Scrolls" franchise. I loved LoV. Rest in peace.

Oh no - sad news. Another visionary from the 8/16-bit days passes away, like Mike Singleton who we lost a few years ago. His legacy is massive.

RIP, such a shame to hear news like this. I was absolutely obsessed with Legends of Valour back in the day.

i first discovered his games with mercenary on the c64, which was an incredible achievement. backlash was one of the first games i bought for my amiga and i played it to death.

he was always a bit of enigma.. to my knowledge he never gave an interview. i have immense respect for people who just let their work do the talking.

the weird thing is i loved legends of valour but i don't recall knowing he was behind it.. though that was many years ago now.
