There hasn't been an offical JST or WHDLoad install of it.

Is this a JST crack version?

I've only played Zoom 2, it's quite good, a HD-installed version would rock.

I can't speak about Zoom 1 though, I've not seen it.

That's what I was gonna say. There is surely no (at least commercial) Zoom 2 on the Amiga...

An arcade game where you have to run along the grid and fill the squares; there are creatures chasing you and objects you can pick up. I can post this to the Zone if anyone is interested.

I didn't know there was a Zoom 2. Never actually got around to playing Zoom on my Amiga. The A1200 messed up the graphics and I haven't tried now that I got my A500 working.

Zoom is a very cool game that is quite addictive once you get going in it.

Zoom also exists for the MegaDrive/Genesis

The Amiga version looks more like an inofficial PD-clone...

Zoom was not only 'official' on the Amiga, but I believe it preceeded the MD/Genesis version. I can't be sure of this because I don't know the year the Sega version was published (does anybody out there maintain this info for consoles?), but the Amiga version was published in 1988 by Discovery Software and was also on the C-64 (probably amongst others). Assuming the Genesis version came later, it would have the ability to jazz up the interface, which doesn't neccesarily improve the game itself (which I found the gameplay to be very good). The MD/Genesis version was not favorably reviewed (at least not the reviews I read) compared to the computer version. I thought the Amiga version was shinier. I cut my teeth on the game with an original copy, however, but found the disk-based copy protection to be extremely harsh, however.

Whahey!
Thanks for the info and the screenshot, Twist!
Well that's Frank Neuhaus who did this game, a guy who was famous for his copy progs! AFAIK, he was the one behind White Lightning and Fast Lightning!
OK, so upload the uncracked version or dump it, and those cracking experts will handle this, won't they? ...

Found it meanwhile amongst my own stuff. I don't know what versions you have, but mine is a one-file version on an AmigaDOS-Disk. So copying the thing to HD would actually be sufficient.

Anyway, I'd like to see Zoom 2, too.

Yeah, he was also responsible for (I think) Marauder II...one of those early days parameter copiers. Conveniently, it would not copy Zoom.

I think I may still have my original of that game (NTSC), plus I am sure I have some cracks. Will scope it out when I get home. Copying the 1-parted file to HD might be easier, but the fact that it's a single-parted file tells me it's crunched using one of those lame address crunchers like TetraCruncher or its ilk. And any system with a hard drive probably doesn't meet the spec address location it will want to relocate to. (sigh)

As for Zoom 2...I'll believe it when I see it.

I have what is shown on the screenshot, so it must not be Zoom 2 after all. My version is labelled "Zoom V2" and is on a compilation disk with Trivial Pursuit. But it won't run under DOSFellow, haven't tried WinUAE on it.

Well, then...Zoom V2 might be a worthwhile seek. I believe this is a U.S. origin game so probably the NTSC version would be considered 1.0 and they likely tweaked the game for the UK market, hence V2. Cool, then. This is interesting to know.

OK, I posted a couple more Zoom's to the Zone...to go along with the Andreas and s4murai uploads. Now the TOSEC team has four alternating versions for their dats. Essentially, I got three to work: the two posted by those guys, plus one of mine (all three seem to use the same version, only on different disks). There was one more I had that is different and I couldn't get it to go to the game table.

In testing the disks, it reminded me of what a great game this always was. A sweet blend of Pac-Man and Qix, with Tetris-style addictiveness. Definitely worth a go or two if you've never played it. And it worked fine with 8.8r8 using a standard 1.3 config.
