IDE maxtransfer check detected split
Hi, always when WinUAE reads a file in my harddisk image, AmigaOS practically lock-up, and only mouse works.
Inside the zip there are the log files. Last edited by Leandro Jardim; 21 September 2013 at 10:26. |

This is the infamous MAX TRANSFER problem.
Possible you have one or more damaged files if this HDF was created with older WinUAE version or it is created using real Amiga + IDE drive. Recent WinUAE versions emulate obsolete ATA-1 feature that is required to support Amiga ROM built-in IDE driver when it does >256 block transfers. (It also logs split transfer message) Older WinUAE versions corrupt data, nearly same as most real harddrives or CF cards connected to real Amigas if max transfer is not set correctly. You can easily test if image is damaged: does it work if you mount it as "UAE" controller, not IDE? |

You shouldn't run PFSDoctor before you correct the MaxTransfer value. Makes it even worse.

And this may happen also if I open a hard-file created in 2.4.0+ in an older version, for example? I think that this is the problem.
![]() Anyway most of the hard-file is unreadable. Even worse I tried to format a new hardfile with HDInstTools and it erased the old (conflict with two DH0)... I tried to unformat it, like I did before, but this time, as I said, most of it got unreadable... But I do not worry anymore that I delete accidentally files, this is getting funny... ![]() Last edited by Leandro Jardim; 05 August 2012 at 01:38. |

It probably has nothing to do with IDE split transfer. I remember seeing those on your older logs when everything worked fine. (Logs when debugging copper error messages)
Just booting shouldn't cause any damage, it probably only causes quick crash because split part will be read as corrupted. Original reason for corruption may be impossible to find, for example buggy program could have overwritten part of filesystem handler's data structures or buffers. |
