Battery removal, hardware blueprint A1200

Hi,

During my travels of the EAB forest I encountered a post by someone who recommended removing the battery from your A1200 when it looks like it's leaking, or when you don't really need it. I've opened up my A1200 for the first time in my life a few days ago to clean it a bit, but apart from the obvious things I don't really know what's what in there. So I'm wondering if there's a blueprint somewhere showing the system's schematics, location of the battery for example.

I think you may have misunderstood. There is no battery on the motherboard in an A1200. However, you will find a battery on most(all?) accelerator cards fitted in the trapdoor slot. I think these are the ones referred to in your travels. Yes, it must be removed if it is leaking, if it isn't, and you don't know how old it is then I suggest removing it anyway and replacing it with a newer, better NiMh one or a button cell.

You may also get confused by the Amiga models: the ones with barrel batteries (the ones that leaks) are A2000, A500+, A3000, A4000 (desktop variant) and the A501 512kb memory add-on for the A500.
