Threads you consider gems on this board

I've not been around EAB as long as some of you veterans, but the time spent here has been very enjoyable. Thank you all for this gem of a board. For it's here where I feel the Amiga will never die and retro gaming will always have a home in our hearts and minds.

*sniff*, this is too much, I think I'm going to cry

Ok enough of the water works, but I hope that's gotten you all in the mood for my next ambitious rant :smoking

While looking through some older threads I realised this board has some fantastic intellectual input and a wealth of enjoyable posts. This got me thinking; why not draw on this fact and celebrate!

In order for newer members to catch up with the great history of this board and even revive one or two A* threads, why not link some of the older topics you consider good right here, bragging rights encouraged

We can have a kind of EAB Oscars ceremony where threads can be linked, a few comments splashed around and categories for “best of” (and “worst of”) decided.

Then we can have a new thread casting votes for each of the “best of” to decide the final honours.

Rck could perhaps then create a new topic section containing the winning threads!

It’s like nostalgia within, er, nostalgia!

Ok, perhaps the above is a little ambitious and yes I know it’s not April the 1st, but are any of you guys interested?

Be honest, I’m thick skinned.

If you are up 4 it nominate some threads!

Not to be nitpciky or anything, but the Raspberry Awards for the threads won't be "awardable" as most of the worst threads have probably been deleted already (hmm, I'm in for a search for M*rz*tt*ckz right now).
Just a first thought, I'll try and think of the good threads when me head is a bit clearer :smoking

Like Retro Threads, the classic posts from EAB's golden age? I love it. And yes, there have been some dandy threads. Much like games and films, there are gems amongst the routine. Perhaps we'll need categories like any real awards show!

After a quick look around my nominations are....

AMIGA SCENE
"6 Classic Amiga Bitmap Brothers titles
coming to GBA"
http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?...c+amiga+bitmap

I like this one because Im a huge fan of the Bitmaps and thought this was great news.
**************
GENERAL DISCUSSION
"Threads you consider gems on this board"

Just because I think this is a good idea
**************
NOSTALGIA AND MEMORIES
"One Amiga game and a desert island"
http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3896

A bit biased maybe but it shows what games you really can get a LOT of mileage out of. (and its by me)

hi guys,

I've been slowly paging thru the backlog of posts here on eab for a while now (not finished yet). I must say some of the posts bring back excellent memories of the early days And on that topic the thread below would have to be my favourite thread. This thread is a true classic and provides an excellent read and really jogs the memory for me !! I recomend it to all you retro guys out there.

"Memories!!!!!"

I'd have to nominate pretty much anything that Cody starts but especially the Cody's Kickin' "Amiga Games That Are Movies" List thread

Allrightythen.............

Some great reads put forward EAB brothers, two of which I’ve never read before . Twistin has suggested we need some direction with categories. Here are a few I suggest - please add some of your own and we’ll decide which are best and slap together a final awards list.

Members awards:

Biggest Amiga Gusher
Most Loyal Amiga user
Funniest
Most Dedicated to EAB
Best avatar
Best Name

Thread Awards:

Biggest Pro-Amiga/Gusher-thread
Best defence of the Amiga
Funniest
Best game genre
Most Entertaining
Most Nostalgic
Most heated (if they haven't been deleted)
Best Debate

The BIG awards

Best overall thread
Best overall member

Once we’ve got these categories sorted then we can move onto nominating threads for each one. Finally, we’ll have a vote and name the winners!!!!!!……..that is of course if you guys are still interested

this won't ever happen, I'm afraid.
I actually care about avatars as much as I care for mobiles. (guess how much )

YES! Someone in the world who doesn't use mobiles!!!!!!!

I thought I was the only one not dependent on these brain-frying devices!

They drive me mad. The constant beeping from text messages; the millions of people walking down the street and driving along doing what it appears to be talking to themselves; having a face-to-face conversation rudely interrupted by their horrible high-pitched rings; people constantly fiddling with text messages everywhere you look. Makes me sick, the whole worlds addicted!

The other week this mobile phone sales person came on and started the usual crap "Sir, we've noticed you don't have a mobile phone account etc. etc."

When I told them where to shove their "free" mobile, they acted like I was some kind of deranged lunatic freak for not wanting to be wired 100% of the time, and in the end downright rood:

"er? I don't understand? EVERYONE needs and has mobiles in this day and age, what's wrong with you?" as an example of one of their comments.

Although I'll admit mobiles have their uses in certain situations, pay-as-you go would is as far as I'm willing to stretch. In fact, I've got a pay-as-you go phone lying unregistered in my room from Christmas 2000!!! I'm sure a situation might arise when I need to use that thing, but everyday dependant use? No way.............unless Amiga games can be played or EAB connected 247 on the thing. Now then I’d join in on the craze!

I must admit I love the MSX Thread too, but that's probably because half of my posts in this forum is in that thread

The thread about the first amiga game witnessed is very cool too ...

RCK's shoot em ups thread was a classic. So was the best Amiga Fighting game thread by Malc. I also loved the "help me with this secret on Gods lev 1" thread, because it was just so engrossing- all of us chipping in and helping until we finally found the secret out. Now that's a community!

Until today I would have said my favourite thread was Big-Byte's "I need a new avatar". That made me laugh.

But then I read Codetapper's "Robot Wars" thread.
http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?...ght=Robot+Wars

The winner of the Funniest Thread, IMO! (Until the bit where Marz 'Personal' Attakz starts ranting on).

Codetapper, you are a class act.

That was a good thread Blackflakester :laugh

I was reading it as it materialised at the time. Wondered what the hell was going on until the game requests made it obvious (never knew Marz that well at the time).

I have to give Marz credit for one thing, namely for drawing my attention to EAB in the first place. I used to hang out mainly on the UAE Discussion Board (which now seems all but dead), and when he was banned from here, he quickly started flaming EAB and it's members there. It was much like watching a train wreck, but it drew me here out of curiousity, and that's a good thing. His picture SHOULD be in the dictionary beside the word "psychotic" from what I saw at the time.
