Screen stuttering in windows mode with WinUAE 4.10.1
WinUAE 4.10.1 causes strong screen stuttering on my system in window mode, which did not occur with version 4.9.1, regardless of the configuration. This problem can only be solved after you have temporarily switched to full-screen mode and then switched back to window mode. Unfortunately, the problem could not be solved despite different settings under "Display". That's why I prefer to wait for the next version that fixes the problem. Or is there another tip, which settings should be made that did not exist before?
I have attached an example configuration previously used for an A1200 emulation with 68060 support. However, the problem also occurs with ECS and OCS configurations. Last edited by PARALAX; 30 January 2023 at 09:14. |

You just know Tony is going to ask for a boot log dump
no repro for me in any case, I booted up Shadow Dancer with a standard 1.3 config and it was buttery smooth. |

I've attached a boot log dump now. I test it with "Slamtilt" with one of the pinball tables. It's very strange, as it didn't occur with Version 4.9.1 and before.

It seems to be an Graphics API issue. The interesting thing is, that it works without switching to fullscreen and back to window mode when using "Direct3D 9" instead of "GDI". Same for "Direct3D 11" mode. Best and most smooth mode seems to be D3D 9 now, even when using 50 Hz resfreh mode in Windows graphic card settings (which I don't use under normal circumstances), but the GDI mode is misleading and no longer seems to matter.

Perhaps you had originally DirectDraw mode which was removed in 4.10.0. GDI replaces it but it does not work identically.
Test using 4.9.1. (Load your config, start emulation, check Misc panel Graphics API selection). Last edited by Toni Wilen; 24 January 2023 at 08:13. |

Yes, that's what I thought too, because when I used the older once version again for testing, I noticed that it still shows "DirectDraw" instead of "GDI" and my configs were all set to DD. Is there a valid reason why DirectDraw mode has been removed and replaced by GDI mode? The old mode worked quite well so far (not that it would do the same with DX9). |

DirectDraw is ancient and for many years already unsupported, there is little reason to ask why support for it was dropped especially if a Direct3D9 renderer is already present.
What would benefit you most is that WinUAE would pick D3D9 over GDI when you previously had DirectDraw configured. IMO. If I am terribly wrong I will gladly receive a spanking. |

Yeah, DirectDraw can work really badly on newer Windows versions.
DirectDraw was starting to become obsolete when Windows Vista was released. >What would benefit you most is that WinUAE would pick D3D9 over GDI when you previously had DirectDraw configured Fallback direction is always D3D11->D3D9->GDI. It would get messy if there are multiple paths. |
