Guide has been tweaked/updated. Preferred method to access is the web site published Google Doc as you don't have to download anything and I don't have to do anything other than edit the Doc.

I tested now with (Intel Graka):

kernel4 init=/linuxrc console_level=0 root=/dev/ram0 mem=512M initrd=bigird.gz vga=867
ramdisk_size=12010 leavepages=7400 video=dovesa

Kern310 gives me a endless bouncing ball

Okay, to boot bigird.gz (the "amithlon" file) under Kernel4 you need to edit this part..
root=/dev/ram0

and make it
root=/dev/ram1

oh...and up the
leavepages=7400

to
leavepages=8000

I am a old Amiga User.

My Notebok have a Geforce 8400M (not working with Amithlon) and a Intel Graka (working only with kernel4)

I would like to add that most of the Desktop machines I've used have used AGP versions of the video cards with no problems. The GeForce 4x and FX 5xxx cards seem to be more plentiful on ebay with AGP than with PCI. Only 2 motherboards I've used so far have not had AGP slots though.

Just wanted to let you know that in case someone is trying to find the cheapest video cards and had more AGP options than PCI.

Look a few threads (maybe pages) back, there is a quick run-down of using Picasso96mode and using the vesa standards for resolutions that monitors typically follow. You'll need to know the specs of your monitor as well (min-max h-sync and v-sync). I haven't tried 1920x1080, but I do have 1680x1050.

Thanks. My focus on PCI was partly from trying to find the most current motherboards that would work with Amithlon, allowing newer and faster CPUs and that might be easier to find, and most of those tend to be PCIe focused with a few PCI slots as an after thought.

First Screen:
Fresh OS 3.9 Install no drivers/patches installed - kernel 4 boot

Second Screen:
Installed Os3.9 BB and Amithlon patch, installed driver4 package and now i have only one 8bit screen

Its the Hardware not supportet or have i a chance to fix this?

No correct Display (only 8bit), no Sound, no wland, no usb

Motherboard wlan on a laptop is probably a no-go. USB and Sound are possible.

run a shell and type
stack 65536
pciinsmod

and see if that shows you any modules being installed (audio and lan only, not video). As for Video, you may want to try vga=868 which is a 16bit mode for 1280x800 based on one site I found.

try these as well
vga=865 or vga=871 (5:6:5 16bit)
vga=866 or vga=872 (8:8:8 32bit)

No promises...just things to try.

Man, I just can't get past the boing ball screen in VirtualBox. I've gotten it to work in the past but now it just plain won't boot no matter what I do.

I wonder if there's a way to look into log files and see verbose output of what is going on behind the scenes...or maybe in Qemu. It's strange that it won't boot and bounces around forever. Why does it need user input to do soft reset when on physical hardware it does the reset automatically?

I haven't investigated it and honestly haven't really cared

I get frustrated occasionally when it just won't boot...and then the next time it works. I've found that if you miss the timing it still may work (hit enter after you normally do) but if you hit it before it's ready you'll get the bouncing ball forever. If there was a spot you could normally hit enter and it "engage", try waiting another 1/2 screen bounce of the ball and hit enter then. Typically once I get it all up and patched and working...I save state it and never shut it down. Reboots inside AmigaOS are fine, power on/start up is a pain.

I uploaded the software to The Zone a while back here, so I reckon I must still have it, and there's a chance it may be on the EAB File Server too.

Edit: No, I can't find it on the file server, but I now know the filename thanks to this link, so it will be much easier to find on one of my old hard drives.
