What is fastest image viewer for Amiga classic

I use original OS3.1. Amiga 1200, AGA, 030/FPU.
I tried to install warpDT but it require later version of picture.datatype etc.

That fastest I could find was VPNG. I liked the way to program found the best screenmode for AGA to display the pictures. I would like to know from the experts about other good picture viewer options. Jpeg is very slow on my 030 but I prefer PDF anyway.

For many years I used Visage:

https://aminet.net/gfx/show/Visage.lha

It is very fast and displays JPG pictures on AGA very nice.

You can also try Meynaf's fast picture viewer (but no PDF support yet):

If by commission you mean paypal took its fee, then i can tell you i only got 9,36Euro...
(but thanks ! )

PDF support isn't planned because it's a text format, not a picture format
Else, PNG is supported and is as fast as VPNG (actually even faster for 24-bit images because my HAM8 renderer is hard to beat ). At least, last time i've checked it was.

For JPEG it should be faster than Visage. It can eventually, however, reject files that don't respect the spec. It is also probably too verbose about unused blocks, corrupt data, or whatever warnings it can find.

It's been some time i didn't touch this program and i admit it was originally designed only for my own usage. I guess that i could come back to it if there is enough interest (but don't ask me for jpeg2000 support, urgh !).

Hi Meynaf

Thank you for the program. I enjoy it a lot. As you said I get some error messages with some Jpeg files but they are still displayed when using shell. You should upload the program to Aminet. That way lot's more will see and use it.

There are often strange things in jpeg files. A lot of software inserts markers which are supposed to be reserved/unused.
You can use the "quiet" option from the command line to switch these warnings off.

No, I have no PayPal account, that was just a joke. Some years ago, I once used a PayPal guest account to make a donation to EAB, but then I got such a lot of PayPal Spam that I would never do it again.

There are some .jpeg files where I get "No composante inattendu". They will not display. Fail returncode 20.
How can V be so much faster than anything else? What is the magic. Does the program use FPU?

Yeah, sorry. Normally a file contains ID for each component (Y, Cb, Cr) which are supposed to be 1,2,3. But sometimes completely bogus values are here and i don't know how to handle them...
As i told earlier, it sometimes rejects files that don't respect the spec.
I guess i could do a fix nevertheless. Can you provide me such files ?

No, it does not make use of the FPU.
The magic is this : it's written in 100% asm.

Seems this was already fixed in current version i'm using. I just forgot to release it.
Now done. New version available in same place as before.

If you find other images that don't work, shoot again

Heya meynaf,

Been playing around with your picture viewer... really fast when I compared it with Visage

2 x suggestions if I may, that would make it perfect:

1) ability to load more than one file.
2) ability to add a delay for skipping to the next file (needs above implemented first).
