On Amiga you can do on the Floppy the same things you do on a HD, what changes is the available space, if you make a small example of what you want to do, I can help you better.
Attention only formatting does not make a floppy "bootable" to make a floppy bootable, after formatting it you must also run the Install command, example: Install df0: Last edited by AMIGASYSTEM; 07 November 2021 at 11:37. |

I just want to Install golf from my Floppy to my hdd, Bille 34GB, its formated (not a Quick format).
When i go into the Floppy, Install to sys is the HDD partition with only 6mb (workbench). And if choose Install to DH0 it says intert disk. What do I do to Install my Floppys to partion Bille? |

It got the error message, just like the attached screenshot (see above) when i choose: Install to DH0.
Please insert volume DH0 in an drive (the flopp is inserted). If i choose Install to Sys: It workes great to install, but I only got 6MB at that partion. I would like to do the same thing, install Golf to Bille_34MB. And how do I do that? |

The drives on the Amiga have both a drive/partition name and a volume name. The internal floppy disk drive is always DF0:, for example, but the name of the diskette inserted may be "Workbench" or "Microprose Golf".
The same goes for your hard drives. We can see you have two partitions, "WB 6MB" and "Bille 34MB" but not what the partition names are. Quite often the first hard drive is "DH0:", but it doesn't have to be, you can choose whatever when setting up the partitions. "SYS:" always refers to the boot disk, whatever it happened to be. In this case, the install script for the game seems to be quite basic and doesn't give you many options. Lisko's suggestion should probably work. |

Thanks, I Will give this a try.
Is it hard to connect these two partions into one partition? |

That would require a complete re-installation, no way to edit partitions like that unfortunately.
If you do want to go through that route, first make sure you have a full set of Workbench floppies including the Install disk. You would boot off the Install floppy, run HDToolBox, delete the existing partitions and set up a single bigger one. Then format the hard drive and re-install Workbench and other software. |

Okay, thanks. I guess its a better idea to get The partion Bille to work then.

The previous owner of your system has set everything up in a rather customized way, for sure. I don't think there's anything really wrong with the other partition.

You can do this by using Disk rename functionality of Workbench or in the Shell by typing: Code:
Assign DH0: "Bille 34MB:" Code:
Assign DH0: REMOVE |

@billeohamn
First of all you have to know that not all the games on floppy can be installed, there are those that require the physical floppy, others are NODOS floppies or "without files" formatted in a proprietary format "unknown" to the system. For these types of floppy is used the "WHDLoad" a particular software that fixes to make them work also on the most advanced Amiga. To transfer a game installed on SYS (with SYS we mean the volume that includes the installed system, on amiga there is the name volume and the name partition, you can use both). I was saying to transfer a game to another volume, if there are assignments you have to change them to the new path. |

Great tips, thanks.
This feels so really odd, I work with Windows Server 2019 setup, VW Ware and Powershell at work. But I cant get a statup script to work in Amiga OS ![]() I just want to be able to play some games. I know that all Floppy games dont have a HDD install option. ![]() |

My partion dosent need the Name Bille 34 MB (I just thought it was a nice name), but if this name disturbes the Amiga OS then I gladly change the name back to DH0

But please keep in mind what I mentioned in the earlier post, there are two names in play for each thing here: the device name (DF0:, DH0:, etc.) and the volume name (WB, Bille, etc.).
The latter is what you can change with the rename command, the former you need to change via HDToolBox. Assigns are useful for temporary purposes. They are like links or shortcuts in the Windows world. |

No you can also call it "Beautiful Italy" it is important that all settings point to that name, or better in the startup write SYS if this is the name of a system, in this way you can change it as you want and you will never have error messages

it's just a temp fix, because the MicroProse installer seems to be hardcoded to install to DH0: only. Many other games allow to specify the path to install during HDD installation. You also can use the Assign trick when you start a game and it requests a certain disk, let's say: "Please insert volume U6Disk1: in any drive" You just do in the startup script, if Ultima6 is installed in Games/Ultima6 directory: Code:
Assign U6Disk1: "Bille 34MB:Games/Ultima6" |
