Problem With Battle Chess

Does anyone else have problems running Battle Chess...?

I cant see to get any version to work properly - I have tried the WHDload version and various cr*cked floppy versions on my Amiga A1200 and my A600... the chess pieces just seem to move like they are walking in treacle...it becomes impossible to play, everything slows down to a crawl - anyone else seen this?

I am missing something simple?

Don't think it's your game. I noticed the same behavior playing on WinUAE from IPF. *BUT* when I switched to Kickstart 1.2, it got rid of the hiccups while walking. My Amiga only has 1.3 and 2 so I didn't test on real machine.

Extra: after a little more WinUAE testing, game runs about the same for A500,A500+,A600 did not test 1200. I have this game for PC too and it doesn't exactly burn rubber there either. Maybe my initial hack job on the chess move protection had something to do with games initial trouble.

Ok, I've put this game on my 030 real Amiga and the performance difference between it and WinUAE is negligible. I would say it is comparable to MS-DOS version. Going to Zone my HD folder (BChess.lha) anyway. If it doesn't help then no harm done.

It does help!

It works and it's great to have this little game back - thanks!
What is different with this version you zoned to others I have tried?

Who knows? Important thing is that all that chess playing wasn't for nothing.

Sorry for bringing back such an ancient thread but I can't seem to find a working copy of this game that has sound and smooth animations. I had a copy of it on my floppy disk but that floppy has died and I'd like a new copy on a new floppy disk but all the ones I have downloaded have either given me a software error resulting in a Guru Meditation or the animations are slow and there is no sound, or it may freeze my Amiga. Has the same effect on emulators also.

There ar at least 4 different cracks of this game.

CR Amigos
CR Dragon Inc
CR QTX
CR UA - WOW

Have you tried all of those above?

...probably not much help to you sacredbanana as I'm using WinUAE these days and you're using a real Amiga.

I use this "Battle Chess (1988)(Interplay)[cr UA - WOW].adf" with a "KS ROM v3.1 (A500,A600,A2000) rev 40.63 (512k).rom" and all is good

Thing is though, I swear this is exactly the same version that I used back in the day on my real A500 and most probably with a KS 1.3 ROM... but if I use that or a KS 1.2 ROM it does crash indeed

Hi D,

You saying it crashes with the 1.3 rom? I tried it with the the default A600 & A500 configs and no crashes.

I have tried all of these. Some result in a software error giving me a guru meditation or the animation is slow and sound doesnt work at all. The exact same thing happens on WinUAE as my real Amiga 500 so it's not an issue with the hardware.. it's the software at fault. It's sad because I had a working copy of the game and it's right next to me but I can't play it because the disk has degraded over these decades. I'm wondering if anyone has managed to get this game working on WinUAE or a real amiga using Kickstart 1.3. I don't even know why so many copies of the game are uploaded when they don't even seem to work properly. I've never had this issue with any other game.

I guess it depends on your definition of slow. Although not blisteringly fast, It seems acceptable to me.
I have the CR UA - WOW release working in WinUAE with the A500 default config.

If you want I can record a video of the 2 cases that I experience on both WinUAE and my real Amiga. But it's pretty self explanatory.
