That is a picture of a Flicker Magic

The one with all the chips on clips over the lisa chip and the other bit plugs into the 23-way D video port on the back.

I've got the manual at work from when I fixed CUAmiga's... I'll dig it out and scan it later.

It's not here. Sorry.

There was a GIF of the manual (which was just a sheet of paper) floating around the net somewhere.

Sorry Alexh but this is ScanMagic and not FlickerMagic!

I have the same unit which only clips over the Lisa chip and uses the ribbon cable to connect to the other PCB with the Amiga's 23pin (for RGB) and outputs an 15pin (for VGA).

I can post a picture of mine once I get home.
And this unit is a Scandoubler only. Not Flickerfixer.

Keropi's is the FlickerMagic that doesn't use Amiga's 23pin but instead used the other PCB to connect to other other chip under Lisa and Gayle

I will bet money if it is a ScanMagic it has two chips missing on the main board that clips over the Lisa.

This has been discussed time and time on this board. The type of 2nd connector yours has be it the Alice clip (that's the chip at the bottom) or the 23-pin adapter does not determine if it is a ScanMagic or a FlickerMagic. Both connectors do the exactly the same job which is to wire up hsync and vsync signals which are not on the Lisa chip.

The tell tale sign that allows you to visually distinguish a ScanMagic from a FlickerMagic is the absence of the two extra RAM chips required for flickerfixing.

ScanMagic (LEFT), FlickerMagic (Right)

@alexh

I am sure this topic goes around and around and around again...

here is my SCAN MAGIC SD/FF that i sold on to our Amigo Keropi

yes there crappy pics... but its a SCAN MAGIC

@Thread (*as alexh would know this*)

the difference with UAE's variant is that it gets the Sync from the Video Port, not from an extra clip on like in other SD/FF's

@Zetro

The sticker on yours said ScanMagic but I am 99% certain it was actually a FlickerMagic and they just stuck the wrong sticker on it.

It worked as a flicker fixer right?

I love having random shit that throws shit off

I figure it was a miss label too, if only it was a mislabeled £10 that would of been worth more LOL

You never know, maybe you paid ScanMagic prices? (They were cheaper)

Actually I got that device from a user here,

with royal fail charges it was just under £60 i sold it for around the same price to Keropi
as I found other ways to Scan Double / Flicker Fix etc.

yeah i know one can get more for them, but hey..... i am not in this retro heaven for the money

I bought mine directly drom DCE back then. They hade four different variants. Just flicker fixing and scan doubling. Which can be differed, as already said, by the number of ram chips. Those came in two flavours, for desktop A1200 and A4000/towerized A1200. The former has the additional pcb for the video port to get the sync signals. The other has the pcb to be plugged on alice for sync signals. The video plug should actually be on a slot bracket.

See I dont understand that. I know it is true, and I know the decision must have been one of economics, but I dont understand it.

The Alice clip is a much better solution for both A1200D and A4000/A1200T than the external 23-pin adapter.

I'm not sure if one of the two versions was cheaper in production. You have two pcbs in both, where you have a plcc socket in one you have a DB23 in the other, well a couple of cents at most. They both sold for the same price.
I decided for the DB23 one, because i found it easier to install in a desktop case.

Maybe that is it... perhaps the Alice clip is too close to the edge of the A1200 motherboard for the shielding to go back on or something?

The "Tower" version in a desktop case with the VGA port routed to the removable plastic blanking plate for the A1200D where SCSI traditionally goes is a nice solution. Then you have no external wires. And if you dremel the blanking plate (or fit a new one?) it looks great.
