Day two!

Mostly cleanup today and I installed a Mediator 4000Di so the system could take advantage of my 32" monitor/TV. This will be temporary as I await my Cyberstorm PPC arrival - it's been stuck at Canada Customs for 8 days now!! Ugh!. Once I (hopefully) get the CS PPC, I will mate it to the GREX and do a fresh install of OS 3.1.4.

Right now I have a mix of OS 3.4.1 and OS 3.9. It's mostly stable but I think the Mediator refuses to work sometimes. Most of the Mediators I have owned over the years have been a bit tempermental!

I did some more testing of the Alice+ A4000, installed a compact flash card, and removed the internal floppy drive. I figured I will need the space for extra cooling fans once the CS PPC goes in. Check out this link for photos:

Once the Grex is in, donate the entire system to Hedeon and maybe he’ll get PowerPC.library working on it for you

Awesome work and lovely setup. CSPPC with Grex will be a lovely setup, it's the one working configuration that escaped me, I had the hardware briefly but my Grex turned out to be toast. I had the Grex in my A1200 though and it was much better than any mediator.

Thought that said with the sonnet library you can have a faster PPC now with Mediator.

Gives him a nice chance to try OS4 though. With Grex and a fast ppc it might be a better experience.

OS4 would need to be supported by Hyperion and it isn't on GREX as far as I know. On classics anyway 3.x is a better experience, save 4.1 for the NG systems

With GREX Voodoo 3 and RTL8029 cards work on OS 4.1 Classic. I know because I was the one that pushed Hyperion for it and tested it (years ago when I had a system before) Labeled "experiemental" because we never had access to documentation. No other cards work.

But primarily I will be using it as a OS 3.x machine.

I have a Mediator 3.3V and a Sonnet in another A4000.

Next project after this is getting my A3000 repaired (shaf has it now to repair) and hopefully get an AA3000+ board from hese if he makes more.

Fun times for sure!

Wow that's really cool, I didn't know that,. I know you were tester for OS4.1 wren't you? I would have loved to have tested it with my old GREX setup, it was probably sold long before thpough.

Yes I did alot of the beta testing on Classic and wrote the Installation Guide and other things. At the time I had a GREX 4000 and GREX 1200 setup for testing, but I subsequently sold those systems about 3-4 years ago. I'm building my collection back up, right now I have an A2000 with Blizzard 060 and CV3D, Emplant, and Firecracker. An A4000 with MK2 060, Mediator, and Sonnet, an A3000 (out for repair), and the new A4000 Alice+ which will have the GREX 4000 and CS PPC (if it ever clears customs!). I Also have a CD32 with TF330 and a CDTV. My dream is to get an AA3000+ board from hese. Unfortunately I missed out on the first round, I was too late...but hopefully he will make another run of them. It's an amazing system.

By the way, some guys on A1k.org got ahold of 5 original AA3000 circuit boards from C= (somehow they got them, I don't know how!) and they are completing them. Apparently C= made 50 AA3000 systems but most were destroyed when they liquidated.

BTW I like your videos, I am subscribed on Youtube!

Darren

Hey Darren, thanks for watching lol. I'm sure we talked a bit when we were both active before.

I'm doing pretty much the same rebuilding my collection as I too sold everything off.

What I found mostly is there's still a great interest in the Amiga and I was particularly inspired by the new open source projects and such things as the terrible fire accelerators and the Vampire.

Yes, there seems for sure more interest, seems to have started in 2018/2019 Love that there is a new Classic OS as well! Waiting for 3.2 anxiously!

DarrenHD that is a thing of beauty.
I have a dead A4000 that want to revive, was it expensive? Did Hese do the board build for you?

Yes it was about 900 EUR assembled by hese. So not cheap. Unfortunately he does not have any Alice+ boards remaining, this was the last one.
