Looking for old A500 Gems...
I was getting a bit fed up with trying to downgrade my A1200 to run older games, so I bought an A500 from Ebay - now I want to buld up a collection of old games on floppies and I need your help... can you tell me your top 5 really old, underated favourite games that would be ideally suited to a bog standard A500 set up - the more unknown the game the better (can be PD) - basically I am looking at discovering a few hidden gems...- I will have a think about mine and post them tonight...
Get thinking... and your help is appreciated... |

A PCMCIA SD adapter + card is IMHO easier than CD but yeah.

Don't listen to alexh & Dizzy. There's something called The Real Deal, and they don't know it
J/K, that could be a great solution, haven't tried it myself. I also haven't had any problems with the games I got from planetemu.net and ran on my trusty A500 I do recommend a 1.3/1.2 Kick switch though, if you want to play some of the really old ones like Barbarian. A simple Asteroids version with attention to detail in gameplay: (as you mentioned PD) http://hol.abime.net/3891 These games because they were immersive/extra fun at the time (also of course Elite, Frontier, Damocles etc) Ugly but my all-time favorite, since it plays like a dream and is well gamedesigned: <--new adjective http://hol.abime.net/2789 Intergalactic underground caverns to explore! http://hol.abime.net/2889 Datastorm, Shufflepuck Cafe, Rock'n'Roll, Prince of Persia, Sorcerer's Apprentice (a well programmed innovative challenge!), Paradroid 90, Lemmings (ofc), North & South, Simulcra. These are games from when I had an A500. I'm not very aware of what came from 1992 on, as I was doing other things. Except I know Masterblaster was a lot of fun in multiplayer So others can give better advice on those later games. Have fun! |

I hear what you are saying - I have WHDload registered on my A1200, which has CD Rom, CF card, Hard Drive etc... and I think that this is the best way to play games but what I am looking for are the games that are not hard drive installable, crash your A1200 everytime you try to downgrade and run them etc... as an example I cant get Data Storm or RC Racers to run on my set up but I know if I stick those disks into an A500 I'm in business straight away - dont get me wrong I wouldnt want to play anything that involves me constantly disk swapping...
Thanks for the ideas Photon - I'm going to check those out tonight. |

Winuae is pretty cool in it's own right - I think it has to have made many people buy back real Amiga's..

When you talk about degrading your A1200 to run games, does that mean you got tude working on your 030?
If so, did you use the degrade kick1.3 icon or set the most compatible options as outlined in the instructions? Yes, this is a follow up from that classicwb thread you posted in. Just curious that's all. I'll try and think of some gems that aren't too well known. Bloodwych is one, but that works fine in whdload. |

Sorry Bloodwych, I couldn't get Tude working - it just wouldn't spring into life and the A1200 just kept booting as normal - I have also been using Relokick from floppy and that just crashes my system... I will try and have a further play with the settings of Tude (I'll read the instructions in more detail as well) and let you know.

It's ok Peter, I was just curious after you mentioned degrading your A1200. I thought it may have been relokick you'd ended up using.
Ok, 5 games I could think of (it’s quite hard remembering some that aren’t well known and for 512K only) in no particular order: Merv the Merciless – Zero coverdisk issue 1 (no other game like it, believe me!): http://hol.abime.net/4765 http://nthdimension.emuunlim.com/zeroindex.htm Time Bandit (very old title – straight conversion from the ST but nostalgic): http://hol.abime.net/1403 Blades of Steel – great hockey fun with fights! http://hol.abime.net/139 Skychase – nice multiplayer jet/paper aeroplane Jet simulator. http://hol.abime.net/1966 Eskimo Games - music will drive you mad!: http://hol.abime.net/2869 |

That looks like a really good little game - there is a danger here that I will end up with games overload...!
Cheers Bloodwych Sorry I didnt mean Datastorm - I meant Oblivion... |
