Amiga CD32 CD Drive Assembly Schematic/Info. Unknown MOD

I have a non-functional CD-ROM drive whose spindle will not budge. What is odd is that this unit has an unusual modification. It has a small circuit board glued to the CD-ROM PCB. It contains a single chip, a 4w66F dual SPST (a dual relay essentially), and its trigger is the CD-ROM door open/close signal. If I had a schematic for the CD PCB I could figure it out in a minute. If I had info about this mod, I would also figure it out. Google searches through the depths of the internet yields nothing. Someone somewhere must know about this mod.

If it looks like this its not a mod, have encountered it many times, assuming it was possibly a fix for something that was later integrated as its not on all controller boards.

That is the modification I found.

I have found that one of the circuits that is opened via the relay is the spindle motor, and the other is the laser diode. I noticed that the motor on/off pin from the Sony DSP chip is not connected, so without this mod, the spindle would have continued to spin with the door open. Probably the same with the laser.
