A hard drive on the amiga desktop(s)

I'm trying to set up a "harddrive" or extra folder on (any) of the amiga desktops. I thought it involved putting things in the shared folder but apparently not. I followed the Introduction to Data Sharing, or though that I did, and got a DH0 to appear on the desktop, but it just flashes when clicked.
I've re-read the data sharing many times now and I think I'm just not going to figure this out on my own.

Please give us more information on what you want and have done.

The steps to add a harddrive are:
Start the winuae.
If the emulation is running then Press F12
if the emulation is not running, and you have the winue properties dialog up, then first load the configuration which should get a shared folder added.

Then click on Hardware, and on CD & Hard Drives.
Click on Add Directory or Archive

There add a device name, dh0 or dh1 or hd1 or whatever you like.
Volume label is the name as it appears on the Workbench icon, like "Ram Disk"
Path is the path to the folder which you want to share. for eg i have a
D:\Emus\WinUae\AMOS_for_Windows\AMOS
set up.

The read/write has to be checked, bootable only if you want to install workbench on it.
After this is set up, click on ok.
Then click on configurations and save it.

Then start the emulation.

That's the standard procedure with winuae. It should be somewhat similar with Amiga Forever.

If you have workbench 1.3 running, the files, which you add to the drive does not show up, until they have an .info file.
on workbench 2+ you'll need to open the drive window, and to select show all files in one of the menues.

Not sure it helps to quote WinUAE, while principals are close, it will just confuse someone who not familiar with both WinUAE and AF.

To create a "Hard drive" (which will in fact be just a file embedded in your AF machine)...
Select your machine in AF where you want to add drive
Select to edit
Go to the "Media" tab
Look in the "Disks" section... look for and remember next free name in sequence (DH2 or whatever)
In "Disks" section, select "Add"
Top of next screen.. select "Hard disk image file" from the drop down
and press "Create Blank" button
Select the size you want... and select the device name *that you remembered from step above (DH2 or whatever is free) ,, and press OK.
It should now be prefilled in the prev screen... you prob dont want change anything more.. so click OK
It should now appear in you "Disks" section of the screen,....
you can now click OK and start your emulated Amiga
After a short delay... it should appear on your Workbench as an Uninitialised drive.... so just format it.. and away you go...

Hope that helps.
Cheers
(PS... I using AF9... but think process Same/very similar for at least 8 and 7)
