A600 ide connector pins fell out

Curious… some of the ide header pins on BOTH of my 600’s have fallen out…

They appear green and may have gotten contaminated by something.
The caps look ok, no solder fuzz, but something has eaten the pins.

Anybody else have this issue?

That's corrosion caused by leakage from the nearby capacitors - a common issue on A600s and A1200s that haven't had their capacitors changed. It doesn't always look like fuzz, it's most often just very slightly greasy in appearance, coupled with dull solder joints nearby. It likes to collect under the black plastic of the IDE connector (as well as the capacitors it came from) and slowly corrode things there out of sight.

Get them recapped and repaired as soon as you can, and make sure that whoever does the work also removes the other components nearby like the video encoder, to clear out any leakage and repair any corrosion underneath them and prevent further issues down the road.

I figured it was this, but had never heard of ide header issues like this. I need to get an ultrasonic cleaner… time to put the boards in the dishwasher, and vinegar up everything, then pull all caps, and nearby components, clean them up and rebuild…

Thanks for confirming cap leakage will eat the header pins.

Yep this very common with A600 IDE header pins and the best way I unsoldered the 44 pin header was to heat each pin individually and pull them out one by one

I had a few break off on my A1200 so I had the port replaced at the same time as a recap when I sent it to retropassion.

Please note, there are other recappers out there who can also do this job
Just keeping things impartial
