A2000 - Battery damage
I picked up an A2000 on Monday this week, including a 1081 monitor, HD and a couple of Zorro cards, for a good price. It's functional and externally in very good cosmetic condition but has suffered from battery leakage. From what I can see on older threads, this looks like a fairly bad case - it just hasn't completely eaten any tracks yet.
I have removed the motherboard from the case and snipped the battery away (as the solder wouldn't melt when I tried!) [see first pic for initial condition] I've removed the custom chips except Agnus, used distilled vinegar to neutralise the alkaline, washed it and finally used IPA to at least remove the main source of the rot. You can see where I'm up to in the remaining pictures. I've ordered DB9 sockets, a 5 pin DIN keyboard socket, a capacitor repair kit, a CPU edge connector and various IC sockets to replace them as they are all oxidised. Has anyone any good advice for what to do with the PCB? I could remove the screen, as is done on various YouTube videos, or is that overkill? Is the alkaline now in the screen layer and it needs to be replaced? Thanks! |
