Amiga 2000-b pal/ntsc switching help
Hi! Ive got an NTSC Amiga 2000 rev 4.2 with 2.04 ROMs and an agnus 8372 and I wanted to know what I need to switch between pal and ntsc.
I think from what I've heard I need 3.1 ROMs and a fatter agnus (ECS) and I'm all good but do I need the full ECS chipset? (Super Denise too?) And if I got a fat agnus do I for sure need 3.1 roms? Or can I switch fine with 2.04. Some places say you can swap a jumper if you have a certan ocs agnus too I think. What I'm looking for is the cheapest and easiest way to swap between pal and ntsc without janking it Thanks! Edit: ive actually found out that the 8372 is a fatter agnus! Do I just need ROMs now? You just need a piece of software to change the screen mode. What are you planning on doing?
Degrader or tude might be useful? |

No, you don't need a super denise.
Jumper J102 will boot into PAL or NTSC with an 8372A Agnus (most other Agnus versions are dedicated PAL or NTSC). 3.1 ROMs allow you to hold down both mouse buttons on boot and choose PAL or NTSC (regardless of how you set J102). This will make the machine display a PAL resolution (and frame rate I think?) but won't change the timing of your actual machine. I don't know how this affects games, but if you're trying to genlock for example, you will need to change the crystal as well. Last edited by Marchie; 27 May 2019 at 01:41. |

There are command programs to change modes. A command for the c: folder called NTSC and PAL.

I have an indie ECS and it copes fine with NTSC or PAL, hopefully the 2320 is the same.

The 2320 supports PAL and NTSC just fine. Many VGA monitors will refuse to sync to 50Hz though.

Where the heck is J102 for pal/ntsc switching on A2000?
I read the forum and many speak of j102 controlling pal or ntsc.. I cannot find any such jumper.
Main board is A2000 rev 6, does have fat agnus 'A' etc. But it is in PAL and I want to switch it to NTSC. Help? |

J102 is between the oscillator, CPU, and Agnus.

Ahh I was looking for a literal jumper, not a pad jumper... Besides soldering it closed, anything else I should know? Someone said something about replacing the oscillator on another site ... this one is 28.35xxx and the one in the other image is 28.6xxxx
Is that critical to this issue? I am going to solder the jumper closed then but if you know about changing that crystal and whether it is necessary... Thanks for the help.. |

I don't have any personal experience with it, but from what I've read some timing sensitive software (some games, networking stuff, etc.) can have issues/glitches as the CPU and system timers will be running slower than expected with the jumper on NTSC with a PAL oscillator.
