mail me (the author) if you have any questions.

In the genre of "Thrust", with a lot of extras thrown in. Rated 4 1/2 stars and 8th best shareware game ever by AmigaPower mag.

Works on any Amiga with 1MB or more RAM, Screen must support NTSC.

Thumbs up

Thanks for this detailed contribution.

Entry created:

http://hol.abime.net/5897

I will take care of the pictures later or tomorrow (or this week-end (or this week or this month .... ) as I might be a bit busy tomorrow), unless someone else beats me to it.
I'll double-check the entry at the same time, in case I missed something.

I have two questions:

1) The wikipedia articles states:
Quote:
The registered version of this shareware game also featured Tritus from Davin Pearson, which was a three player competitive Tetris-inspired game, much in the same manner of the game Super Foul Egg.
Can you confirm that?

If yes, that is interesting because it was the same for Tritus (including R3):
http://hol.abime.net/4660

David Pearson will be credited too then.

2) Have you tried the sequel linked in the Wikipedia entry?

I might give it a quick try, but could be of interest for people who liked R3 to list it in the notes of the entry.

hi lilalurl,

The sequel is for windows only, I'm gonna try it but I hate playing at the pc, so only to see what it's like. I think it was written by someone else as a tribute type thing ?

Tritus was done by dave peason. who was part of the same team ?

both games were sold from the same place, so maybe whatever game you pay for you get the other included.

I always thought R3 was the main game and Tritus was the freebie.

question marks because I am not 100% it's just what I remember.

I like thrust type games, and this one is good and has puzzles to work out along the way.

Don't bother if you don't want, I took a bit of time to check everything.

R4 seems to be only single-player so no dog-fight missions or cooperative missions. You have a choice of 3 ships.
Not a bad game if you want something of the genre on PC but from what I could see you will probably prefer R3 anyway.

R4 was done by Davin Peason. I don't know the exact relationship between him and Bruce Webster but they both seem to be from New Zealand so I guess they are friends or were work colleagues at one time. Therefore probably gave a hand to each other.

Anyway, I don't seem to find Tritus among the lha archive containing R3. Perhaps Tritus was included on a disk release but I can't know for sure.

I played R3 a bit (I think I played until the second level featuring doors requiring a key). The solo missions indeed give a different style to the game compared to games that limit themselves to dogfights.
I think the ship bumps a bit too much when it hits an obstacle.

And since I played R4 first, I am bit bothered because R4 features reverse thrusters when you press back/down, so I got used to that. So I have a tendency to shoot by mistake missiles in R3...

Btw, but the game should even be playable with a 512k kick1.3 Amiga. There is a "low-chip" executable using downgraded sound samples.

the bumping about is okay because some ships can take loads of damage
and you can always go for repairs in most levels.
the missile cam is cool. you can shoot a missile and it bounces of certain walls and can go for a long way if there is no object in the way, it can even loop at the edge of the map and go round and round.

The ships all handle different and each level even has different gravity. first 4 levels are easy, level 5 is where it start to get harder. I just stick to the 1000 points ship "Blobby" for first 5 levels.

I use it on winuaex on xbox and remap the conroller to use fire as thrust and up to shoot.
its the only game so far that I have seen that slows below 60fps on my xbox with fastest settings, occasionally it drops to 56 fps and sound distorts
might have to get my amiga out for it, but then I'd be stuck with the stupid up to thrust (the bane of thrust games on the amiga)

It also has a nice level editor.
Pity there are no more levels anyone did to download.

nice that it works on 512k
