Where to buy 80mhz 060 with mmu and fpu?

Im thinking about buying a voltage regulator for my Apollo1240 and then paying someone to solder on an 060.

The only 060's ive seen for sale are just under 20 quid but have no mmu or fpu. Are these worth buying? Is there anywhere to get one with full mmu and fpu?

What I need is a MC68060RC50 I think

Thanks

You can't. Motorola only made the full 060 at 50 and 60MHz. The EC and LC were available in 50, 66, and 75MHz.

Reply from AmigaCentre:

Hello,

You also must got the Eprom or its file. I do not know how it could work without it, perhaps well, perhaps not.
After you just have to replace cpus and put jumpers in correct way ( clock, 040/060 ) and plug the 3.3 V small pcb.
I never do this job, so i cannot tell a price.
I think you can do by yourself.

Kind regards,

JJ B

So it all seems simple except for this Eprom/file business! Anyone know anymore about it?

You can buy 50MHz 68060's that WILL overclock in all situations to 80MHz.

They are Revision 6. The last MC68060RC50 ever made and they have a mask of E41J.

They run a LOT cooler than regular XC68060RC50's and so with even the smallest heatsink and fan can do 80MHz.

They are priced at about 50-80 euros on ebay from European Resellers.

There is a guy called "PG" on Amiga.org who offers ROMs, regulators or a full 060 soldered upgrade. You probably bought the voltage regulator from him

Yeah I think I did buy it from him. The hardest thing to get will be the 1260 roms so ive pm'ed him to try and buy one.

Dont kid yourself. The hardest thing will be desoldering and resoldering the chip without breaking the board and/or the 68060 chip. You might even consider soldering a socket to de-risk it.

Well yes I will not desolder and resolder myself. I will pay for someone to do that.

He says he sells the 1260 eproms for £7 each.

And the full 060s for......£55 each.

And he says the cost of soldering and socketing will be £35 if needed.

Pretty steep price.....could probably buy and 2nd hand apollo 1260 for all that.

It is close. The prices are fair though.

I dunno what you paid for your Apollo A1240.

50MHz Apollo A1260 = £120+

80MHz Apollo A1260 = 10 + 7 + 55 + 35 + (whatever you paid for your A1240)

I got my Apollo 1240 with a A1200T I bought for £90 with:

Micronik infintiv case
A1200 mobo and floppy
Cdrom
2 hardrives
idefix buffered ide
Apollo 1240.

I guess someone could work out how much it was bought for.

I really didnt think these cpus costed that much I would be willing to buy a 060 with no FPU. The EC ones are under £20 but theres no point with no MMU and I heard they dont perform well at all.

I think I will just buy the eprom from him and see what happens later on.

EDIT: How much cooling would a 80mhz 060 need? Same as a reg 040?

If it is a E41J mask, yes, it will just need a heatsink. It will probably be cooler at 80MHz than an XC68040 at 40MHz

When getting rid of your 040 chip, take a look at the MASK revision. I am always on the lookout for an L88M one.

Hey Yo!

Can anyone post (or via PM) "PG" email address. Would including an 060 overclocked at 80mhz work with the B1260?

Regards,

Where can i find a Quartz at 75 even 80Mhz and how can i be sure it s a Revision 6? Is it just MC ?

You can get a crystal at Maplins electronic shops. Or various places on the net. Me feels you didnt look very hard.

Check the mask number.

No. It must have (as I have already said in this thread) an E41J mask

By the way I think my 68060 is actually a MC68060RC66 if i remember well.
If it s the case does it means the mask is defecto inside or not.

Crystals
http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/...ywords=crystal

68060
http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/...keywords=68060

They don t propose the right MC68060 you mention.

If you read this webpage it seems MC and 71E41J mask are linked...
Do you have better information?

http://www.czuba-tech.com/ct60/mc_status.html
