Winuae+IPF > MFM > Floppy
Hi,
More of a request for information than the need to actually try this... Say I had winuae running with a caps file (ipf) in drive one.. if I mfmwarped this disk to a mfm file and then transferred this back to the amiga and wrote it back to disk... What'd be the outcome of most of the disks? I'm not entirely up on mfm or ipf for that matter so it's just a matter of interest. |

A large amount of disks would probably work. Many many won't. Copy protections such as copylock (on hundreds of titles, even some that do not appear to be licensed by RN - going from Codetappers interview with him), speedlock, density tricks, flakey bits, etc., etc. the list goes on will all fail with an "MFM" dump, because you need more information than that.
So if you have anything even slightly resembling copy protection - the disk won't work. However disks just with custom formats should be okay. The biggest problem is you may never really know if it really worked or not since some games are more subtle about action when the protection fails. |
